Do you really need to sort the collection itself or just view it as sorted without changing the underlying collection? If the first, follow the previous answers. If the second, then you can just expose an ICollectionView[^] and bind to that rather than to the root collection. Dave Binging is like googling, it just feels dirtier. You should ideally bind the visibility of the grid and control this via your view model. Set the binding in your style, the datacontext should be the view model and you should be able to control the visibility via a property. This[^] simple example should help you out.

Add an event handler for GotFocus and then find the method for Open() or Expand() or whatever it is to show the list.
