When you install your service, you need to have at least two files. One is the exe file. The other is the exe.config file. The exe.config file is created when you compile your project from the app.config. You can update the exe.config file directly and stop and start the service and it will use the new config settings. So if you service is called MyService the exe would be MyService.exe and the config file would be MyService.exe.config. Hope that helps. Ben

If you're trying to hook one application then you could do API hooking on the CreateFile, ReadFile, WriteFile APIs. This is a task that really needs to be done in C++. See here[^] for an example. Otherwise you'll be writing a File System Filter Driver which runs in kernel mode, and for that you'll basically need to write in C. You'll need the Driver Development Kit[^] (I think - file system filters might be an advanced driver type only permitted in the Installable File System Kit[^]). Don't do this unless absolutely necessary - unstable applications merely crash the application, but unstable drivers crash the system. Kernel mode is very very hard, and you should at least read Windows Internals, Fourth Edition[^] by Mark Russinovich and David Solomon before starting. Stability. If a user tries to access a file in windows A request is sent to the Server machine and a messagebox pops up indicating the a user is trying to access a file in the client....The admin in the server allows or denies access to a file ..Suppose if the admin denies access a control message is sent to the client..And The user gets a message that "The File cannot be viewed B'coz you are denied access" and if he permits the file Opens in the Client Machine.
