When you install apps, *always* pick the Custom option, and uncheck the checkboxes that allow it to take over. Otherwise they'll happily replace file associations with types they can handle, and there go your preferred icons. But to be more pragmatic: All file association details are stored in the registry (I can't be bothered to look them up right now, but they're easy enough to find). It's a huge list, so export (only) the subset of associations you care about to .reg files; you can re-combine them all into a single file once you think you've covered everything that matters. The .reg file format is easy enough to manipulate manually with Notepad. When an app replaces your existing customizations, just double-click on the .reg file to re-import what you had before, thus undoing (only) the file associations the installer clobbered. If you want to do it yourself, look for something like "USB 3.2 Gen 1 to M.2 SATA " that you can plug your m.2 into. Some caveats: - you say bricked. that might mean you lost the SSD. A couple of years ago I purchased a couple of AINOPE USB type A 6-ft extension cables. They were highly rated at the time, and have given reliable service. Your mileage may vary. Odds of success go down as cable length goes up.

Calculus is actually pretty easy. One thing that really surprises me is how many music majors claim they don't like math. In reality, Calculus I and Music Theory Two are probably about the same level of difficulty. Things really don't start getting ugly in the math world until you reach junior level ABET engineering courses and apply the Calculus you learn. Calculus I-III and even DiffEq generally aren't that hard depending on *where* you take them, but at some point, you will be expected to apply it and things get more difficult there. To answer your question, I'm guessing one can skate by in the world of Data Science without knowing Calculus and used pre-boxed algorithms and/or numerical analysis techniques to make observations. After all, a person can write a 3D game now without necessarily knowing classic Physics or Linear Algebra since that person can likely rely on a gaming engine to do that "hard stuff". I think much of Data Analysis these days might be in using low-level Tensor Flow or higher-level Auto ML or super easy regression analysis packages. You don't necessarily need to have a deep understanding of how these things work to use wrapper libraries. With that said, don't avoid Calculus. It's much easier than you think and there are probably software tutors out there...

It's sad when parents and school counselors push kids into computer work when the kids have no interest or aptitude for it. And people shouldn't talk about salaries for non-supervisory people- hourly is what matters.

I don't even have a WIFI modem that works. I tried to contact Beelink technical support, but that was a joke. I bought it off of Amazon as Beelink was pretty much the only inexpensive, fast micro-desktop - and by the time I had come to the conclusion that the WIFI just doesn't work, I had already installed Windows 10 (i.e., instead of the crap Windows 11) and installed my apps & files, so I wasn't in the mood to zap the drive and return it. With a WIFI USB stick, everything works, and there are a lot of USB ports on the rig, and I have a venerable Dynex USB hub too - and I have exactly 1 free USB port for that Bluetooth. :)

The site pretty much looks like something designed to sell ads to colleges. Personally, I have a CS degree, have found it quite useful, and generally look for others who have CS (or related) degrees when hiring programmers. I find those without degrees often lack the well-rounded experience I'm looking for and will often struggle with basic concepts (like parsing, optimizing, ...). Of course, I've known some pretty good self-taught programmers. Ultimately, applicable experience counts more than education, which is pretty much true for any position (except those with rigorous licensing requirements that require degrees, like doctors).

I was gonna ask, do you have to have an account, but given the nature of the site (now that I see it) I suppose you'd be very limited in what you can do if you didn't. Do you really spend that much time on that site that you have to proactively seek something to alter its behavior?

Yeah, they usually have some kind of hidden sectors that consumer grade writers can't duplicate.

You could probably skip notepad and write a simple console app or powershell script to extract Plain Text from clipboard into a file.
