Hello everyone, I was wondering if there was a way to calculate the log2 of a number. I know there are functions for calculating the ln, log and log10, but don't see one for log2...maybe I'm missing it or there's a way to calc it using one of the other functions? Thanks! I get this message when I try to search the forums: Oops! Hear that crunching sound? Something just broke. Why did this happen? Because either we screwed up in a way that wasn't immediately obvious until now, or because the ASP engine running this site has just rolled over and died, or because the site is simply having a bad hair day. Options 1. Try and do whatever you did again. Try again. 2. Open the CodeProject home page, and then look for links to the information you want. Sure, the information you need is probably on this page, but you never know your luck in a big city. 3. Pray, curse, or sacrifice burnt offerings, then see 1. A few minutes ago I clicked on IE to go download something and got a very strange (and hilarious) error page. IE's home page is set to my company website and I guess something went wrong (our website just got a major makeover so maybe that has something to do with it). Here's what it said: The page cannot be displayed There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed. We apologize for the inconvenience. • Search Results
    T The Lady of Shallots

First I want to say that the new search is great! I love being able to search multiple boards and specify phrases! Thanks Chris! I have been experiencing some trouble with it though. After I do a search and am browsing through the results, I click on a result and start reading thread. The search hit post is fine, but if I click on any other posts in the thread, the page refreshes and I am at the first page of the message board, where the latest posts are. I also found that if, from there, I go forward to the post I was viewing, that the message I had clicked on is expanded. Anyone else notice this? Thanks! Hahaha... at first I was confused and couldn't figure out why I would need to explain music subscription sites, then I read the title of your post. Ok, the why I do I use the name "The Lady of Shallots"? Well, it comes from the poem The Lady of Shalott[^] by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Only I changed it to "Shallots" which are a kind of onion. One day a co-worker and I had a random conversation in which the Lady of Shalott came up and since then I've used that for log-ins on any site I need one for. It's very useful because hardly anyone uses this and I never forget my my log-in name is. Well, there it is. :) Rachael "It seems that we're getting to the bottom of the barrel of squirrels." - my boss

I'm thinking about signing up for one of those sites that lets you download music for a monthly fee. Have any recomendations on a good (cheap) one? www.musicnow.com[^]looks like it has a lot of good stuff and $10 a month doesn't seem too expensive. What do you all think? Yeah, I guess you're right, but doesn't help me. :) Maybe if I could search using exact phrases and other modifiers (hint, hint) that would help to get back applicable hits. Thanks!

    T The Lady of Shallots

Thanks for your thoughts! Yeah, getting a feel for the health of the company is a good idea. I would say we're doing pretty good, there's not concern about layoffs, but neither is the excessive spending on stupid stuff. I'm in the Washington D.C. area, does that help?

  • Should I ask for a raise?
    T The Lady of Shallots

I'm trying to decide if I should ask for a raise, so I thought I would ask all you smart people what you thought. Here's the situation: I was hired by a small private software business right out of high school where I started out as the shipping person. After a couple months I started taking programming classes at the local community college and the lead developer (also the president of the company), started giving small projects to work on. The company paid for my classes as well. 3 years later - the company I worked was bought by a large software company (a little over a year ago). I am now an associate developer programming in Visual C++, with a mix of Oracle, PL\SQL, and Delphi thrown in. I am about to graduate from the community college (which I have been going to all this time part-time while working full time) and will have my 2-year degree in Computer Science. My company is no longer paying for my school, as they have no provision for that, instead, when we were bought, they gave me a raise. I also still have the same boss as I did before, whom I am very grateful to because he is the one who has encouraged me to go to school and made sure the money was taken care of. I currently make about 28K before taxes and am on the East Coast of the US. I am thinking about waiting until I get my degree in May and then going to my boss and asking for a raise. What do you all think? Does that sound ungrateful?

  • Printing to non-default printer without showing dialog
    T The Lady of Shallots

Hello everyone, I have an MFC MDI app that I am trying to override some of the printing and I am have lots of trouble. I want to not show the printer dialog box and also set the printer (I have access to the HDC). I'm sure this is a relatively easy thing to do, but can't figure it out. I tried searching through old posts, but wasn't able to find anything. Thanks!

    T The Lady of Shallots

I really like having the search for the boards the way it is, rather than the old way of filtering based on exact phrase or whatever it was. However I do have an enhacment request for searching. I noticed that if I search on two keywords, for example, graphics mdi, I get back all the posts that have either of the words in them. I would like to be able to search for posts that have both words in them (kinda like the article search with it's AND, OR, NOT and NEAR to customise the search string). Thanks!

Yup, you are right in saying I'm trying to update my icon. I don't want to change it completely in the exe, just update it so the user see something different at runtime. I am using MFC, I will give it a shot with the SetIcon and let you know what happens. Thanks so much for your help!
