I suppose it all depends on how much crap you install and/or don't uninstall. I just retired a Celeron 900 system that had run the same install of Windows XP for about seven years. It was a solid, though slow, extremely noisy and huge, system. (At a company I worked on in 2002, we discovered that an NT4 server had been running for over three years without a problem. The funny part was that IT would constantly go on tirades about how unstable NT/W2K was. Seems to me that systems are only as unstable as the people tinkering with them.)
