Your question is way too broad for a specific answer; in general terms the answer is this: 1) figure out how the device is sending data (read the documentation) 2) code your service accordingly I'm doing the same thing right now - here's what I encountered. Our devices are configurable; we chose UDP sockets as our preferred communication method so we programmed the devices with the required commands and then used this[^] in a service on the server to read incoming data. The other option was to use TCP/IP in which case we would've used this[^] and this[^] on the server to receive data from the devices. All of those classes have methods for opening and closing connections (if applicable) and reading data. We ruled out comms via SMS on a cost basis. Hope that helps. Jim :Badger:

.net is not directly supported on Linux by Microsoft. Take a look at the Mono project[^]. They are attempting to implement the CLR and large parts of the framework on Linux. Currently they have a lot of good support for .net 2.0, but some of the 3.5 stuff is still catching up. It depends on what your app uses. Linq is basically a workaround of queries with .NET objects in client, which you would be doing with loops earlier. Say, you have a list of objects of your own class, instead of writing a for loop, you can write a LINQ query to do your job. Later introduction of Parallel Framework with LINQ will result in better performance. Running queries or Stored procs in database is completely a different scenario. Dont confuse LINQ with database queries my friend. Hi, I am not shure, but in VB 6 you have two Tab-controls (I do not remember witch is witch). There is one, that only shows you a tabbed layout on top, and not hide any controls, it you click a tab. Then it has one (in a external ocx, I think) that does what it is supposed to do. Hope this helps. Viewstate. There's a block inside your HTML that contains encoded information, which maps to your controls on the page. Then when you click a button, an event is sent in the post back to the server. This information is then matched to the control tree ( which means that dynamically created controls can fail to have events b/c they are not in the tree soon enough ), and thus the framework can work out which control caused the postback, and if it has a method that needs to be called. I have a book here somewhere, it has a relatively harmless title like 'programing ASP.NET in C#', but in fact, it goes through the behind the scenes stuff really well, I'd recommend it, if I could find it to give you the title....
