Just like the previous post indicated. You can start by adding a control you wish to modify to a form. Get the control the way you want it, then right-click on it and select Add to Repository. Find an appropriate place, etc. Then use this control from this point forward. Note, this is only for modifying the controls properties. A little, but not much, more complicated if you wish to alter the behavior behind the events.

A list of providers[^] can be found here[^]. As you see, both ODBC and OleDb are providers. You can connect to SQL Server using these providers because they speak SQL Servers' dialect. These two providers are "generic", and they can handle multiple database-formats. The native SQL Client provider was written specific for SQL Server. Assuming that there is a table in your DB called UserInfo, I would check that the CDatabase object is connected to the datasource using UserCn.IsOpen before trying to open the RS. Check that the datasource is configured the same on the target machine as it is on yours - including permissions. In my experience, that is the most common source of this type of problem... though I admit my needs have never occasioned use of C++ for database connectivity. MZR

Using the method mentioned its only memory for the BSTRs (which are pointers) that been assigned so to get a complete string you'd need to assign memory somehow. Using SysAllocString takes care of that for you and also looks after the length of the string, something that could complicate matters. You can assign memory to the SAFEARRAYS data area, if the rest of the SAFEARRAY has been setup to expect the type of data you put there. Personally I'd get it working using the method mentioned before looking for other ways but I'm sure there are plenty of articles etc on other ways.

COM defines a mechanism by which you can define and use objects in a (relatively) language independent manner. You expose objects through interfaces (a.k.a. pure abstract classes). Globals and locals aren't so much of an issue, as functionality is exposed in an OO way. Public/protected class members aren't an issue, as you only expose methods that implement (public!) interface methods. Exported functions aren't an issue - the COM specification tells you what functions to export (DllGetClassObject and DllRegisterServer)
