If you want system-wide event notification then you'll have to have a Windows hook me thinks.  There is an article on System-wide keyboard hooks here on CP, can't remember what it's called but search for "system wide hotkey" and you should find it. I do not think there is a direct way. You can go though the CultureInfo's TextInfo property and get the code page (ANSI, OEM or whatever you like) and try to base it on this. It would probably narrow it down to a few codepages you should "include", but to be honest I am afraid you might as well create a manual list and check the major language name. It should not take toooo long. :)

The index is referring to (for example) if you were searching through a list or an array then you'll have to iterate through the items and you can use the position of the array / list (i.e. the index) you're currently at to display in the progress bar. You were not clear in your original question as to what you were searching so I gave you two possible methods.  If you're executing an SQL Query then you'll have to use an infinite progress bar. Hello One of the main ideas of C# -if not the main- is being managed by the garbage collector. That's why they call it a managed code -while there is an unmanaged code-. This task is quite advanced and is concerned with memory locations. Even then you'd have to store the memory location -otherwise known as pointer- somewhere to access the value. You still can do something similar to that in C# with reference type only using WeakReference class. Revise it in your MSDN Yet again what's exactly your point? Sometimes something that's possible is not always the best solution for a matter!!
