Another way is through DataSets. These are disconnected recordsets you could get from the SQL Server/MSDE (or whatever data provider, so long as it has either an OLE DB provider or classes designed specifically for it using ADO.NET) using a DataAdapter or DataReader (the latter would force you to fill the DataSet yourself). Using a DataView on a DataTable lets your sort and filter using SQL-like expressions (some simple and aggregate functions are supported, too). XML serialization using the XmlSerializer always serializes to strings (that's all XML can contains) but deserializes the string back to the Types of the properties with which they map. When you read this XML fragment into a DataSet, the DataSet has no idea what it is reading and will assume that all the columns are simply strings. In order to coerce the DataSet to use a schema, you can either create a DataSet schema using the DataSet designer in VS.NET, or just type one manually yourself and read that schema in with DataSet.ReadXmlSchema, then use DataSet.ReadXml. Why didn't enumerating work? That's supported by the Framework plus some Windows function that are P/Invoked and has more to do with the print server and the printer driver than the printer itself. As far as forms, A3 is already supported so long as you use the dimensions that I gave in a previous example - no rounding! You could try it, though. I never said it was a good way! :) I agree with you that it isn't good for determining the state of other objects, but it was just a quick and dirty idea that could work if managed correctly (i.e., good synchronization and exception handling). As I was helping someone else with a similar problem (actually, it might've been the same guy), I did find a way to determine which controller is being used without resorting to reflection. The PrintDocument class has a PrintController property.
