In order to open the document on the client side, the encoding must be set to an appropriate type for the relevant document. The thing you need to set is known as the MIME type, for instance - if you want to open up an Excel document, the content type should be set to application/vnd.ms-excel. I hope that this helps. If performance is truely the only thing which is important than write your own code. But really is that all that matters? I think your time is worth a lot more than that. Why not use the regexp tools you have and try it out. My betting is that it will be good enough. But who knows without anything else to go on? Data Quality Tools and Data Profiling software

I'd say write your program whichever way suits you. Then if performance is a problem profile it to find out where it is spending time. Then, and only then, think about how to speed it up. As has been pointed out, regexes may be faster, then again they may be slower. Then I suggest you have a look at the documentation available with the avi wrapper that you have found. See if they provide something which will help you start up. The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.
