How about the Adobe family? Like Photoshop + InDesign. I know it is a bit expensive (a slight understatement) if you are only using it to make some box shots, but having a single licence for each is not such a bad investement - if you are actually going to print something. Anyway, you seem to have the box ready and printed. How did you do that in the first place? /moliate

Publishers are always looking for new authors with interesting ideas. I suggest that you develop a proposal before you start on your book. A proposal includes information about your work experience and, of course, information about the book you'd like to write. The proposal's job is to describe to potential publishers how your book is different from others already on the market. You need to research other books on the market that cover the same topic as your book, describe what they're missing, and how your book fills the gap. If your topic is completely unique and there aren't any books available for it, the onus on you is to describe why there's a demand for a book on your topic. Proposals often include a table of contents (TOC) where you get your first chance to show the overall flow of the book. The TOC doesn't need to include every heading; however, the TOC should at least provide first and second-level headings, along with the estimated number of pages for each section/chapter and estimates of how many figures you'll have. You may also be required to submit one chapter of the book (not necessarily the first chapter) along with the proposal so that the editors can get an idea of your writing style. All of this work gives the publisher an idea of how much your book will cost to produce and how much revenue it is expected to generate. Once you've got your proposal, submit it to a number of publishers. Don't submit the proposal to more than one publisher at a time though! Wait for the publisher to consider the idea and to get back to you - some publishers are faster than others and you'll have to be patient. Once your book is accepted, the publisher outlines basic terms including money, number of pages in the book, and publication schedule. One thing to watch out for is the total number of pages - make sure this number is accurate since it causes problems for the publisher if the book goes significantly over or under your initial estimate. Writing a book is challenging and rewarding on a number of levels. One thing I particularly enjoy is seeing my work out on the Internet (on places like Amazon.com) and in stores. You raise an interesting point, the trouble is as soon as you put the code up onto this site then it is out of your control. Whilst 90% of people who visit Code Project would probably respect your licence there will be others who just take the code and use it any way they want. You'll probably never know if your code is used in App X by Company Y. In the end you should only post code that you are happy to share for all uses. You can put whatever licence you want on your own code but there are individuals who won't respect it anyway. That sadly is the world we live in. Michael :-)

Problem solved. I wrote a little C++ program to calculate the data, wrote it into a file, imported the data into Excel, and THEN plotted it. If you are using .Net have look at the second last .Net show - not the current PDC one. Alternatively get a copy of the "Gang of Four" Design pattern book listed on this site and take what you need from there. In windows you can trap time changes, but it isn't cut and dried, you have to know what time it was previous to the user changing it if you want to turn the clock back. This is of cause a rediculous way to treat time with obvious risks involved. In Win2000 (and family) the standard user by default does not have access to change the time. This can be important, since time is important to networks and very much so to databases. Rather than trap-then-reset the clock, what you need is a time source. If you have a network then you make one of the servers a time server. Did you know that Windows only looks at your clock once? One of the first stages of Windows startup is to look for the network, this is when it would pickup from a timeserver, if no timeserver then it looks at your realtime clock. That is the last time it looks. If you don't have a server. There is a time source on the internet, I can't seem to recal where it is off the top of my head but Grenich would be the place to start looking (or your local counties equivelent time station). Question for NT client guru's? Can the client be setup to timeserve? I remember seeing a white paper where it was mentioned many moons ago, but I don't know if its been implemented. Don't confuse the marketing people with anyone who knows the realities of the products. If adverts were true women could all lose any excess weight and look like the models on tv within 14 days (or what ever there say), all us men could have bodies like charles atlas in a month (erm. I mean when he was alive rather than now as some of us have). And Daz would get your clothes whiter than white, which isn't even a logical sentance. Windows is a good product. We used to have loads of different computers each with a different operating system and programming languages, on sites like CodeProject we would all moan about having to re-write all our code libs for each BIOS we came across. We eventually got macro cross assemblers/compilers that would compile for several systems, but never the combination you happened to be working on. With MS/Linux/UNIX we have three main systems, our compilers can be used for any or all. Programmers for a long time now, whether in utilities or applications, write as far as possible to hide the actions of the code from the user. As much automation as possible, in order to fit into the document based Windows/Linux (Linux within a WinX front end I mean here). Windows works. Its meant to be a document based system, and it is, it could be more so and probably will be. It is a system made for end users who should have little or no contact with the background system. We are programmers/IT people, its our job to sort the nuts and bolts out, its up to us to do the studying of systems to ensure users can simply 'get on with their job'.
