Work Issues

Hi i've been working with(Mostly GUI development. Good knowledge of MSVC++, MFC, STL, WTL .) since 2 yrs.... and i too know about SQL, Active Directory, LDAP, MMC, RPC, TCP/IP. but is as of now i'm in India... so wht wud it need me to do for appearing for ur job regards Adi

Hey, I am currently a student, senior year college. This summer I picked up Petzold Windows Programming and started going into it. I do it because I am interested and would like to pursue in the Windows direction; however I know I still have much more to learn about the theory and databases and things like that.. that actually makes a program run. I have the fear of time running out too soon. -Pizzaman -It's like blowing up an abortion center because you are pro life.

It's been a while since I took it and I can't remember much. The demo from Transcender is usually pretty similar in structure to the questions on the exam. It's not actual questions but similar so you at least have an idea what you're in for. If you can afford it you might want to buy a full version but I've never been able to do that myself. Any opportunity to meet and mingle with other developers may grow into a possible job opening. The key is to get to know people while you're there - spread your business card around, introduce yourself, chat with new people about your interests and theirs. Simply attending won't do the trick, you have to be friendly and keep your ears open to conversations going on around you that you can comfortably join. "Nobody is Ugly at 2AM"

At present, I think it is best to stick to your job and get as much experience as possible together with the certified courses. Moving to the States or UK is not looking that good. They say it is picking up but I can not see that at present as I have a lot of working experience and just been made redundant. I have been applying but no response so far. np

This is a rather late reply, but I just read your post. I am around for a very long time and had to change professional directions many times in my life. If anything, the direction in computer science will change with ever increasing frequency. Do not "overthink" this issue. Just learn how to think, then you can change direction at short notice.
