Using (at office) : Trend Micro Used (at home, some time back) : Norton, AVG. Would recommend : Ummm, tricky. :~ Norton did a pretty good job, but it's been 1.5 years since I parted ways with my home PC, and Norton seems to have gained a bad reputation of late. I would definitely recommend AVG, though. It was free for non-commercial use, and I think it still is. Cheers, Vikram.

I only use the free personal version, and from my experiences with it, I would recommend AntiVir; it works silently in the background most of the time and doesn't seem to slow down my system. I recently helped update a PC that had Norton AV installed; extracting XP SP2 took about 10 minutes with Norton enabled, and 1-2 minutes with Norton disabled.

I've had a few problems early on about not being able to connect for updates, but that hasn't been the case for at least 6+ months now. Haven't had any problems with viruses it did not catch, yet. So either I've been lucky or it's working. BW

Zone Alarm Security Suite and I love it :)

If for you performance and protection are both beneficial then I would suggest you to install Kaspersky Personal Pro or Eset Nod32 Antivirus, they both offer serious protection and do not slow your PC down much. But if protection is very important to you and performance not, then I would suggest you to install Norton Antivirus or Panda Platinum Antivirus and additionaly install with above mentioned products Panda TruPrevent Personal, in this case believe me the probability that you get harmed by a virus is very low.

Did they ever get all the issues with ssl accounts worked out in the new version? I was using until the new version of the app refused to work with my gmail account. I switched to avast, also free for personal use, which did and haven't looked back.

I have. Once. My sisters school requires that everyone on their lan use it. Her freshman year my brother went along to setup her network stuff, he ignored the 'uninstall all other AV progs' message and tried installing it overtop of the Norton that came with her laptop. Uninstalling required 3-4hrs of manually deleting every registry key associated with the two programs.

boost your code || Fold With Us! || sighistI've been using Norton for years now, but am seriously considering NOD these days. My computer in the offices started to crash every two days, and after I've tried everything I did a clean install of WinXP in the end. After one day, the crashes were back, and I found that one of Norton's processes always hangs and causes complete system instability. I tried many of their suggested workarounds but none of them worked. I remember trying to get in touch with their support for a few days with no success, so I didn't even try this time and replaced with a trial version of NOD, eventhough I had about 9 months of Norton subscription remaining. But on the other hand, I never had a single problem with Norton on another 3 PCs, so it may have something to do with a specific hardware configuration. Anyway, NOD has been suggested by some of my friends so I'm considering it for all PCs I manage now. Also, I have installed the free home edition of AVG for my father and it has been reliable so far (almost 2 years). Rado
