I got my first daily news letter today. This Jordon girl is a real looker(as Conan would say). I was suprised they(she) made her face so big... I felt kinda naughty pulling her up at work.. lol. She is a good writer too(i did actually read the thing... after a few minutes)

My reaction was one that I deigned not to even be appropriate for the SoapBox. Suffice it to say, it struck me as a marketing gimmick in rather poor taste, and copy-catish at that. Marc Pensieve

it does seem a bit slashdotish RSSish... I was thinking it would be more focused on codeproject specific things. Its just the beginning though, I'm sure it will change around based on feedback... so... have some feedback! :rose: <----for jordon -- modified at 13:48 Thursday 26th January, 2006

Hey, it's not like i credit my success to "talent"... For what it's worth, i didn't realize Jorgon was a person until someone posted a link to her profile in The Lounge. I'd figured David had gotten bored and taken on an alter-ego... As for the newsletter, the whole idea seems kinda 1994 - blogs and RSS are the Hot New Thing, right? But i'll give it a few weeks and see where it leads. After all, it's 2006 and i'm still reading paper magazines (as long as they're free).

NOOOOOOO!!!!!! You bastard! You took a woman of infinite beauty, a veritable ray of rosy fingered sunshine, a brilliant, scintillating dew drop, rebinding, and refocusing the very light around her into a halo of sumptuous delight, and cast, nay my merry fool, threw her to the dogs with this vile characterization. I am overwrought with horror, nay with angst, nay, not even words can describe my state right now, such churlish emotions do I feel beating in my breast! I challenge you to a duel, to defend the honor of young Jordon against your hellish deeds and contemptible actions oh, Sir, Most Foul! ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Fine, VCF vs. JavaScript. We just need to arrange seconds...

Hmm, I'm thinking young knave. Yes, I think VCF shall triumph over yon simplistic JavaScript, for VCF wraps JavaScript, and it's runtime dominates the simple script, only allowing what things it deems personable to execute. Yes my young imp, thy evil deeds shall be punished! Now begone with thee, and repent thy scurrilous acts, ere I lose my patience and bind thee to a lizards throat! ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Marc this isn't directed at you alone. More at all the replies I've seen so far.
I think it's funny to me that we assume it's a marketing gimmick and don't ponder the possibility that she was in fact the best candidate for the task. In an industry largely dominated by men and claiming to be technical it amazes me how quickly genuine efforts get debased into cup sizes, sexual attraction and other HR related infractions.
I would venture to guess she was the best candidate. I would also venture to guess she has to put slightly more work into this than just a phone call or two while she files papers and gets coffee for all the men getting real work done. As their has already been much discussion about her name, a picture seemed fitting to me as Jordon could be male or female. Additionally, this is the first distribution by CP where it seems to be uniquely individual. The newsletters seem to be a summary of site activity and less a preparation.
When I compare it with other columns and editorials in my local paper a photo of the editor or columnist is always included. I think Jordon's work and delivery is more consistent with journalism standards than it ever was a marketing thing.
Do you really think Maunder sat there and said, "Yeah, let's appeal to their libido." I just don't see Chris or David doing such a thing at all. Maybe I'm wrong but I doubt it. It follows some pretty well established trends in journalism.
Some assembly required.

Sad! Sad! But thank you for the link. I agree with the author of that post. I'll never forget one girl I went to school with. She was gorgeous, she knew it, she didn't care and she loved blowing the curve. I'm not talking her bust line either. For her the curves meant the highest scores in class. She got them and pretty much sent a "screw yourself" message to all the mail ego's (and there were plenty) in school. I got to know her and she was a fantastic person. She just wanted work in computers. Cool for sure.

This gets my five. Just because she's not dog ugly doesn't mean she was not the best candidate, and it's incredibly sexist for anyone to suggest otherwise. Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++
