I just use the free Google-owned Blogspot service. Works great, no complaints. Automatic saving of posts, easy to use, lots of free templates to get you started. You're off the ground in a few minutes.

Awesome, but I would like to play a little with the code, so I can modify a little to do more stuff. Was also thinking to add the blogs I like into my blog without opening my XML reader. So ... just looking for an excuse to play with code :-O Cheers Al

I've created some very simple code that I use to run my blog. It's all ASP.NET 2.0 and C#. Check out this post if you're interested: http://www.dlarsen.com/showPost.aspx?p=35[^] -- modified at 19:39 Thursday 26th January, 2006

Skins? Themes? Nope. Roll your own CSS so it suits you. I wrote it in Visual Studio 2005, so you can drag-and-drop elements around at your leisure at it (usually) still works. -- modified at 21:01 Thursday 26th January, 2006

Can't take it anymore. I need to put my own blog online. To write what? I don't know yet, but the fan is playing with code, correct? Now, I have seen .Text long time ago, however now is build into communityserver and I don't want the hold enchilada. Seen another one in PHP that Nish is using for his blog. Awesome blog I may add. Any suggestions? Cheers Al

We use .Text over at WDevs. Whilst it is a little out-moded in places, it is still a strong product. Well worth looking at as a starting point. I've looked into the newer version that is part of 'Community Server' but they seem to have over-egged the pudding somewhat. Michael CP Blog [^] Development Blog [^]

Yes, it's PHP + MySQL, I was also looking for a .NET solution at first (tried .Text, CS, dasBlog) but in the end I have also decided for wordpress. Version 2 has been released in the beginning of January, and it's very nice and easy to set up. Also, there's a lot of plugins and themes already available. In the end, I just thought that I won't have time to work on development or customization anyway, so it doesn't really matter what platform it will use as long as I can install it and make it working without too much effort. If you want to try out wordpress without installing it on your server, just go to http://www.wordpress.com[^]. That site offers a free hosted solution (you'll get something like http://yourblog.wordpress.com). To download the code, plugins and themes, use http://www.wordpress.org[^]. And if yo ask about my blog, it's not public yet, and I haven't decided what it will be about yet either. :) Rado

If you want our own site on your own server, my preference would be one of: 1) .Text 2) SubText (rebirthed .Text) http://SubtextProject.com[^] 3) DotNetNuke and their blogging module The last option is if you want to possibly have more than just a blog on your site. With DotNetNuke you can build a fully functional website (just like wdevs) and have blogs along with it. All free software, BSD! I currently use .Text but will move to the DNN blogging sometime this year. One of the reason I stay with a .NET application is that I like to modify if needed and can always enhance the product any time I feel like it!
