This is so wierd, what a bizarre coincidence. This morning I read thedailywtf and saw it mention .NET and COBOL. I thought to myself, "is there any COBOL compilers for .NET"? I go search and find the NetCobol site. I go to CP minutes later and here is your post. :~

Speaking as someone who actually learned to program in Cobol many, many years ago I can say that there is definitely a place in the world for it, I don't personally want to go there, but it *is* a very nice language for it's purpose.

Absolutely correct. I went to a Wrox symposium in Las Vegas in September 2000 before .NET was even released and they were already talking about Fujisu COBOL being one of the first third-party languages. BTW, that was back when it was ASP+ and ADO+, anybody else remember that brief naming scheme? QRZ? de WAØTTN

Absolutely. ASP+ and NGWS. (Next Generation Web Services). Heh. I personally think .NET sounds better...but it sure has confused more than its fair share of managers and programmers. "What's this .NET thing?"
