I don't think anyone minded this interruption during Bill Clinton's speech at the Coretta Scott King's funeral. In an unusual bit of theater, the Clintons stood together at the podium as first he, then she, addressed the crowd. The New York senator spoke of leadership, and of Coretta King continuing her husband's legacy. ... The crowd got the point. ... When Bill Clinton said he was honored to be in the presence of "my President, and my former President" - he was interrupted by someone down front yelling out: "and your future President!" :-D However, that's not something that surprised me, it was the fact that majority of the speakers bashed our current president in his presence. No matter how worse the situation, I think it was wrong of the speakers to turn the funeral ceremony into a political advantage. :sigh: http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/389528p-330423c.html[^] - Malhar -- modified at 17:49 Wednesday 8th February, 2006

Regardless of your political persuasions, this belongs in the soapbox.

Don't get me wrong, I think our current administration is about 1000 different kinds of stupid, but: The Lounge is a place where you can discuss anything that takes your fancy. If you just want to laze about and discuss things that don't quite fit elsewhere, then this is the place.

But political discussions fit quite nicely in the Soapbox.

Why? Because people get upset talking about it? I'm genuinely curious: what's the dividing line between the lounge and the soapbox? Popular opinion?

If a post is likely to send someone into a fit of keyboard hammering, followed by stomping outside for a cigarette, then it's Soapbox material. Unless it's about how inferior all forms of VB are to anything else, or how much better Windows is than Linux - those are prime Lounge flamewar fodder... ;)

I think a good place to start would be if it's either political or religious, then it ought to be in the soapbox. This coming from both a political and religious person. :)

That fact that Bushie was not physically assaulted speaks volumes about the crowd's restraint.

I happen to agree, a funeral is supposed to be a time to remember and honor the memory of the fallen not as your own bully pulpit. X|

That makes sense, except that I don't know where other people disagree with me (e.g. are wrong ), so it's impossible to know what will upset them.
