Okay, yes its the lounge, but its not programming.....exactly. At work, we are probably going to start rolling out apps with SMS server, so we will probably have to switch from old faithful INO-Setup. Its done us well, but last time I looked did not do MSI packages. I know there is some XML monstrosity on sourceforge release from MS. It may have improved, but I think becuase I like an easy life, I want to buy something, unless there are real MSI alteratives to INO-Setup. Then there is the VS setup wizard thing. But it does not really produce very proffesional looking packages. Please correct me if I'm wrong about that. So for you guys that do MSI packages, what do you recommend. Free or not free. -- modified at 5:55 Tuesday 28th February, 2006 Forgot to mention. Doing a mixture of C++, .NET and COM apps when releasing.

Sadly, I've found InstallShield to still be the best and easiest for producing MSI's. It is a pain to use sometimes but it does the job well. Michael CP Blog [^] Development Blog [^]

Wise Installer Professional.  Not free, but I used to use InstallShield for both old-style and MSI-based setups and I now use Wise.    Peace! -=- James

Ho hum. Was wondering about that. I used it years ago, and it was a pain back then. Will give it a look.

We are using Wise, but I am more and more irritated with the product. It takes them ages to fix simple errors, and support for COM+ just sucks. They didn't event seem to hear about MsBuild (unlike InstallShield btw). WiX[^] is the way to go. Maybe not quite "klick and go", but for automated builds you won't find anything better.

I switched because I liked the feel of it better.  It is not a perfect product, but for my needs it works quite well (simple upgrades).    Peace! -=- James

Ah that was the source forge thing I was thinking of. Last time I looked, it hurt my brain. Is it actually reasonably easy to get going?
