Dogs have an even bigger undisputable advantage, they are useful ;P. And don't even think about saying cats kill mice, Sandy, our lab will hunt down & kill mice. As well as going all the normal gun dog things, fetching items, tidying up her toys, taking messages to members of the family, digging (with permission) potatoes from the garden and more... Ed

If there's "unusual" noise in the house, my cat will run to the door and snarl (she grew up with a dog...)

Cats and computer programmers are kindred spirits[^] :laugh:_

        • They are both intelligent.
        • They are both naturally inquisitve.
        • They are both independent.
        • Neither have any respect whatsoever for authority.

What experiments have you been performing :~ ? :) On a more serious note one of my friends from primary school had a cat (well we think it was a cat) that was extremely fat but incredibly athletic and agile, it was able to jump out of the kitchen window from the floor (a distance of ~8ft). But this cat used to have geat fun sitting on swivel chairs, spinning round watching bats and when the bat flew overhead it'd jump up and catch it. But I still prefer dogs ;P Ed

Then I'd have even bigger problems with the performance of xacc-ide, it'd want to go off and take a cat-nap every hour ;P Ed

Those are the breeds i just flat-out don't like. :-O I'd compare 'em to rats, but i've lived with a pet rat, and frankly rats are easier.

Our family's got a nickname for Chiwawas (if that's how you spell it), Rats on Wheels. Once, we were at the Royal Welsh and this huge pompous lady walked past with one and my sister who was only ~10 at the time called out, look Dad a Rat on Wheels. You should have seen the look on the womans face  Ed

You've obviously never had a cat. Dogs have owners; cats have clients.

Yep - never saw a house cat retrieve a duck, herd cattle, or tear a burglar's arm off... You just did not have a big enough cat. One of my college buddies who lived in San Bernardino had a mountian lion as a pet. No one ever burgled that house - EVER. From an old questionaire to determine if you are a 'Real Man'. (Ran across it quite a while ago, and have never forgotten this question): Do you prefer: a) Cats b) Dogs c) Dogs that eat cats. Of course, the answer for 'Real Men' was c).

Cats every time. Dogs are too excitable and jump up and slobber and bark and crap on the pavement. Remember: a dog is not just for Christmas Day. If you're careful, there'll be enough left over for Boxing Day too...

On the other hand, along these lines, one of my friends told me that 'at least the dog does not bury his poo'. He very much disliked stepping into the 'stealth' turds buried in the yard by the cats. cats have an undisputable advantage: they don't bark (though mine barfs from time to time..)

You also dont' have to take them to a Kennel is you are leaving town for a couple of days. Just dish out a bunch of food, water, and fresh litter and they are happy. Brett A. Whittington Application Developer

No need to start a cats vs. dogs war; simply vote 5 if you like dogs or 1 if you like cats. If you like both, vote 3; if you like neither, move along, folks. I like dogs myself. :) Cheers, Vikram.
