This was mentioned in the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who. A couple of US contacts, have asked what it is? Given that 'Beans on Toast' is a staple of the English diet, I was suprised that they hadn't heard of it it, or even eaten it. So, have you had 'Beans on Toast'? That's the stuff, and you've just reminded me that I have to watch it when I say toast, I forget about the French Toast stuff.

I'm always amazed at the cultural differences between the UK and some of the US citizens. Like the guy who didn't know how to use a kettle to make coffee, or tried to drink undiluted orange squash. 'Beans on toast' isn't really anything special, and it was used in 'Doctor Who' as a reference to the mundane lives of humans. Michael CP Blog [^] Development Blog [^]

Heh. I'm not terribly familiar with UK colloquialisms, so i thought it best to be precise. After all, there's a pretty big difference for "chips", so i thought maybe "toast" refers to something like fried liver in the Land of Limies... ;)

Now taking suggestions for the next release of CPhog...

In my student days, yeah. I don't eat much pre-packaged stuff these days, and baked beans is one of the foods I gave up on long ago. I think they're Harricot Beans, served in a mediocre tomato based sauce.... Is that like "shit on a shingle"? My grandpa tells me that's what they fed him in the military when he was fighting in the Korean war. :)

May not look to good, but it is quite tasty. I remember my wife (a true yankee) looking on in disgust as I dug into a plate of biscuits in gravy (same thing only biscuits instead of toast) until I forced her to try it. That one thing started her on a path to being a true lover of southern cuisine (everything fried or creamed with some greens and beans thrown in for fun).

I did that with tuna for 4 months once (lunch only though) when I was on a serious, serious health kick. I'm with you, I'll never look at tuna again unless there's so much crap in it that it barely tastes like fish anymore. Jeremy Falcon

The absolute best food to go with baked beans is BBQ. Nothing else comes close. Throw in a side of potato salad and it's a meal worth getting messy over. Jeremy Falcon
