Yes, Norway exports also. But if you read the Canadian government reports, we also export to Norway.

Yeah, it's not pretty, but it's driven by an international demand for the fur. Mostly for use in fashion. Better to blame the people who create the market for the fur than the people doing the killing. No demand, no hunt.

I hope so. Anyway, there are lots of ways to kill animals without make them suffer. For example the way that's used for cows (a nail in the skull -> istantaneous death). So, what is the seal's leather used for? Coats? :~ ___________________________________ Tozzi is right: Gaia is getting rid of us. My Blog [ITA]

Sure it is. Oh, i know what you mean - i'm sure very few harvesters head out to the fields with the primary goal of mutilating fuzzy little rabbits and leaving their twisted, dying bodies to rot in the sun... But, as long as there's hay in the fields, there's gonna be rabbits, and no matter how much you regret it, a few are gonna die during harvest. You either harvest and kill rabbits, or you don't, and something else kills them. Or they live. Something like that. Sorry, not trying to be flip. But that's life, you know? Living things die. Sometimes it's the ugly, biting, disease-carrying things, and sometimes it's the cute fluffy things. I'm neither for nor against seal clubbing. I don't live there, i don't work there, i don't know what all goes into the decision someone has to make that leads them to go out and club seals. But i do know that most of us have made a decision at one point that has led, directly or indirectly, to the death of another living creature.

It's the annual seal harvest. We wouldn't be doing it if there wasn't an international demand for seal products. Personally, I am totally opposed to it. I think it's cruel and unnecessary. But somebody somewhere is creating a market for demand so it will continue until it is no longer profitable. The main market is for furs. Largest importers are Norway, Germany, Greenland, and China. Other importing countries include Finland, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Greece, South Korea, and Russia. So you can see the problem in stopping it. Bash Canada, sure. The men doing it live in very poor northern communities. The hunt is a source of income to a depressed area. If it's going to stop, then international demand has to stop. The demand is purely vanity driven. BTW: It's not just Canada. Other nations include: Norway, Greenland, Russia and Namibia.

If they're going to hunt them, fine, but beating them almost to death, and then gutting them so they bleed out while they're still alive is just plain cruel. There's no cause to be an asshole when they're just laying there on the snow. I think somone needs to treat one of these "hunters" the same way... ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'.

No it's not. That's called a consequence. There's a big difference between that and setting out in a pre-meditated fashion to torture an animal. It’s along the same lines as murder 1 and murder 2, as defined by the cops. Jeremy Falcon
