In this regard, Canada and Norway are very similar. :sigh: I can understand that the northern communities need to earn money some way, but do they have to be so friggin brutal!? There's gotta be less medieval ways of killing a seal.

Apparently not. They do the same to cows in a slaughterhouse. According to research it is the most effective way and more efficient than a bullet. :sigh:

I hope so. Anyway, there are lots of ways to kill animals without make them suffer. For example the way that's used for cows (a nail in the skull -> istantaneous death). So, what is the seal's leather used for? Coats? :~ ___________________________________ Tozzi is right: Gaia is getting rid of us. My Blog [ITA]

That is essentially what they are trying to accomplish with the picks.

      Sadly, yes.

Not according to that video. They were using the blunt side and beating them to death. Jeremy Falcon

I don't know, as I haven't studied the subject much. But, I bet you there is a better way if they'd bother to find it.

That's not my point. The point was they are weak men to resort to such brutality. It's about having standards and some lines you don't cross just because you're poor. Jeremy Falcon

Oh, I agree. But a family to feed and the desire for money is a strong incentive.

It is. I've seen many other videos with other animals (even dogs), used for coats. All of them beaten like them and de-skinned (don't know the word) alive. Many of them are still alive when the "operators" throw them in the rubbish. They keep trying to escape, all of them without legs. Here is another "movie": fur[^] ___________________________________ Tozzi is right: Gaia is getting rid of us. My Blog [ITA]

Yeah, it's not pretty, but it's driven by an international demand for the fur. Mostly for use in fashion. Better to blame the people who create the market for the fur than the people doing the killing. No demand, no hunt.

Intentional or not, there is lots of cruelty that goes on in this world. I think we'd be better off working on the human to human cruely part of life and fixing that before we start arguing over what human to animal cruelty is considered acceptable. If they're going to hunt them, fine, but beating them almost to death, and then gutting them so they bleed out while they're still alive is just plain cruel. There's no cause to be an asshole when they're just laying there on the snow. I think somone needs to treat one of these "hunters" the same way... ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. If you're not here to race, go the hell home - don't come here and grumble about going too fast. Funny thing about people, a lot tend to think brutality is only a bad thing when applied to humans. Jeremy Falcon
