Air-travel related question

Suppose you are flying from point A to point C via point B. You plan to stay a couple of days at point B, and you don't want to carry around your entire baggage during your stay at point B. The most comfortable option would be if the point B airport provided some baggage storage service. Now my question is, do airports actually provide such storage services for transit travellers? Another possibility is to have your bags shipped to you via FedEx or DHL or UPS directly to your hotel/residence where you'll be staying in point C. Then only take with you what you will need for those couple of days at point B. I've heard of people doing this quite successfully. It avoids all the checkin hassles, etc. ---sig---

Obviously, if you're going camping hundreds of miles away from civilization, then that's not gonna work... but most everywhere else has things like shirts and toiletries available at reasonable prices. And most prices are reasonable, compared to what you pay for airport storage or extra checked luggage...

I've heard of people doing this, but doesnt it get pretty costly? Wouldn't it be much cheaper to tip a baggage handler at the airport?
I suppose it might get expensive, I really don't know. But, compared to storage at some facility it might not be that much more. ---sig---

Together, the two of us can carry 46 Kg of luggage when flying internationally, and domestic Indian flights allow the same if you are a traveller from US/Canada. Exactly. I suggest you carry stuff to the fullest extent allowed. Get the stuff weighed first before you board on the plane. Keep the precious stuff in hand baggage. Last time we carried exactly the maximum allowed by the airline. You need pressure cookers, wet grinders, mixers, clothes, sweets and so on an on. It's a pity that airlines have reduced the weight.

Yes in the airport you could check in your bags. Also in Thailand there are sleepy rooms that you can go and take a nap. Better yet in Miami airport, there is a hotel that when traveling to Europe we normally stop for a layover to take a nap! Traveling with kids is the best idea. Given that you can't lock your bags anymore, and Christian's experience with having stuff stolen out of his bags, would you really trust the process to store your bags? I wouldn't. In the case of un-accompanied bags, you can lock your bags, provided you give the keys to the airline staff. They should have that kind of an option for a storage. It's mostly in the un-loading stage that things disappear. But I'd sure double check before I ever take this option - both the security and the financial aspects. Thanks for reminding Marc! This is sometimes a necessity for conferences.... you load down on books and ship them all back separately.
