I drive in Canada as the Canadians do, and in India as the Indians do. Driving in India is gonna be tough now though, because I've got spoiled by Canadian driving, which is child's play compared to what we have back home :-) Regards, Nish

There is no traffic system so you can drive as you wish. Whoever got better horn gets faster. One hand on the wheel and other on horn. ;) But the traffic mortality is way less than any other country. On Other hand in US where they have best traffic system with all the gizmos but still they have high traffic mortality in the world. So :thumbs up: for Indian traffic system. :) [Quick Reply][Reply][Email][View Thread][Get Link][Bookmark]

I haven't seen one during daytime in India. The accidents usually happen during night time due to drunken drivers. [Quick Reply][Reply][Email][View Thread][Get Link][Bookmark]

Far lower than in North America. Because there are no rules, everyone's careful about their vehicles. Also, there's no such thing as comprehensive insurance (we do take comprehensive and 3rd party insurance, but in practice they are not so), so if you crash your car, you pay for it. That makes people even more careful. Regards, Nish

Possibly a speed thing? Nobody was going particularly fast in that video. How long does it take to travel an equivalent distance say down a city street in India vs. the U.S.? regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

Partly true. You can rarely do more than 30-40 Km/hr on a busy street. Even that'd be a little dangerous. I always found that it was almost impossible to shift into 3rd gear - had to go on 1st and 2nd during peak hours. On the highways though, speed limits are ignored (people don't even know there are limits). So you can do the maximum speed your car can do. Regards, Nish

Usually truck drivers - they are invariably guaranteed to be drunk. I wonder why the cops don't do anything about it. Regards, Nish

Part of that is because you have states like New Mexico that head up the highest accident rates per population (yet have lower population so scew the curve). I think we finally dropped out of the #1 spot, though I hear we still have the #1 spot for running over pedestrians. For ages we were in the top 10 for all of highest (per population) auto accidents, drunk driving, auto mortality, auto-striking pedestrians, and many other auto related categories. I think we are still in the top 10 for a few. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Talk about things of tomorrow and the mice in the ceiling laugh. This is probably how they drive in Asia. I have been in Jakarta and Bali, and they drive in the same exact way. The bigger you are, the more priority you have. And you must honk all the time. -------- "I say no to drugs, but they don't listen." - Marilyn Manson

Precisely! :) I admit I wouldn't survive ten minutes driving in Bombay. After more than a quarter of a century of driving in the US, I get cold shivers when I'm a passenger in car in India. Although I don't know how much better Boston drivers are. :-D /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Music | Articles | Freeware | Trips ravib(at)ravib(dot)com

Not at all. That's why you can't drive faster than 15mph on Indian city streets. No, really! /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Music | Articles | Freeware | Trips ravib(at)ravib(dot)com
