Damn VS.NET...

Is anyone else out there terribly upset with the bugs and/or stability issues in VS.NET? :mad: My 2 biggest peeves with it (note that little things bother me more than bigger ones) are the fact that it always starts up with maximized child windows, and the dialog editor does not persist the guide/grid settings! Grrrr... Not to mention that I have crashed the IDE several times; mostly in the resource editor, which seems to still get unstable after a few cut/paste operations... (Crashes I am used to, so they do not bother me as much...) Just venting...! Peace! -=- James.

I'm not able to find an option where i can compile a single project alone in a solution, everytime I build, it has to build the entire solution including all the projects, is there anyway around it ? I want to compile only the project i selected, It hasnt crashed for me yet, thats probably cause i'm using it for non-ui code. cheers Kannan

Be realistic. As Nish said, it'll probably be a couple service packs.. maybe even a new version... before it becomes usable. Who uses MS products before at least the seocnd service pack? ;P Winning isn't everything, but then, losing is nothing.

I think I was lucky enough to install it seamlessly in less than 6 hours... Up to now, it works fine (I am not doing complicated stuff). However, VS NET has the *annoying* habit of putting himself as the active window, bringing itself to front as soon as the mouse passes over the IDE. Does anyone how to deactivate this thing? It may be a stupid checkbox somewhere hidden in the options dialog, but it is quite irritating!! R.

Try right-clicking on that particular project in the Solution Explorer, and select "Build"... See if that works for you. Peace! -=- James.

If anyone has such a game, please inform me._All the more reason I keep telling other developers to NEVER use Microsoft (sample) source code as examples of how to do things! :/ VS 6 was not this unstable. Sure, there were many ways to crash it (and I know a few locations I can jump to in it's disasm., after attaching a debugger to it, to keep it running so I do not lose work-in-progress :)), but it was not this bad! Never had that problem! :) Sounds like some XWindows-like behavior, where the "focus" follows the cursor... Peace! -=- James.

This is precisely why in my C# book I intentionally stay away from Visual Studio.NET and go out of my way to make sure that all code works regardless of editor being used. It used to be that only decidedly anti-MS people used third-party editors. However, it's becoming more commonplace nowadays to see developers using non-MS editors that are both more stable and feature-rich. Cheers, Tom Archer Author, Inside C#
