The MacBook has landed
-
Apple have done what I was hoping and have released a 13.3" MacBook[^]. Pretty decent price too, from $1099 for an Intel Core Duo 1.83Ghz, 512Mb RAM, 60Gb HD. I'd go for the 2.0Ghz with 1Gb RAM though as it has the DVD writer. That comes in at $1,399. Not bad for a Mac. My only gripes are the low-speed HD (5400RPM and no 7200RPM option) and the integrated graphics system. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!
eh, stop bugging me about it, give it a couple of days, see what happens.

What about the tiny screen? I've never understood the acceptance of a sub 15" screen? "If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done." - Peter Ustinov

I want a portable laptop. Something I can stuff into almost any bag and not worry about. I currently have a 15.4" HP laptop and the thing is a right pain. You have to man handle it, it doesn't fit into most bags and it is weighty. I have a desktop machine for work with a nice big screen so this laptop wouldn't be my dev machine. It is for everything else outside of the office. I want a laptop that is like an A4 pad of paper to carry around. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

If you are carrying around a laptop alot, and doing alot of walking with it a small laptop can be nice. My laptop has a 12" screen and weighs in at less than 3lbs. In fact it weighs less than the my laptop bag, when it has my "essentials" (Pocket PC, wacom tablet, pens/pencils, notebooks, etc). Matt Newman

Fair enough. I just don't think I'd be happy with such a small display. :~ "If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done." - Peter Ustinov

I have an IBM X40 that I can hide under a sheet of 8.5x11 paper, I think Lenovo still makes it but they also make this[^] which is called the X41 and as far as I can tell its only slightly heavier and a tablet pc. Matt Newman

Somehow I can see my days of not having a mac laptop are coming to an end in the not so distant future. Jeremy Falcon

But in India(or in my friend circle) I've hardly seen anyone talking about MACs . I dont know why. :~ If at all they find one, they look at it as if they've spotted something in the museum. All they talk about is INTEL PENTIUM + MICROSOFT WINDOWS . Now only they've started talking about ADM, LINUX.

The only way I could handle a 12" display would be if you could pull out extensions to give you another 12" either side, neatly sliding back into place for storage or when space is tight....:-> But then I'm the same person who looked at the games market in the early 90s and decided not to bother until they shipped with 3D photo-realistic displays and real sound... Anna :rose: Currently working mostly on: Visual Lint  Anna's Place | Tears and Laughter "Be yourself - not what others think you should be" - Marcia Graesch "Anna's just a sexy-looking lesbian tart" - A friend, trying to wind me up. I'm looking forward to the huge 3D hologram-like display... (think "Minority Report"). "If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done." - Peter Ustinov

Why not just a pair of wrap around glasses that plug into the unit for the display. No built in screen on it at all. "Every new day begins with possibilities. It's up to us to fill it with things that move us toward progress and peace.” (Ronald Reagan)

The only thing stopping me from getting a Mac is the company's arrogance. I really dislike those Mac commercials (the Mac with Intel chip ones, and the nerdy business PC guy vs the cool hipster Mac guy) that assume we have all forgotten Apple's old marketing claims about how terrible the Intel chips were compared to the G4 processors.
