The MacBook has landed

How big a problem do you think it will be? What games would run on an integrated chip? Half Life 2 for instance runs on my HP which has an integrated chip. Other games won't though. regards, Paul Watson Ireland FeedHenry needs you
eh, stop bugging me about it, give it a couple of days, see what happens.
For one Oblivion dosen't run on the intergrated chip. It does run well on my Hp wich has a mobile ATI chip. I installed boot camp on my wifes core-duo mac min. I tried to play oblivion but it would either crash or hang at start-up. I don't play a lot of games. But, if I am going to replace my current notebook which is pretty damn quick I want to have at least the options I have now. -- modified at 12:40 Tuesday 16th May, 2006 Oh, and here is a benchmark of the Intel graphichs chipset. http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2427[^] Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton

Apple have done what I was hoping and have released a 13.3" MacBook[^]. Pretty decent price too, from $1099 for an Intel Core Duo 1.83Ghz, 512Mb RAM, 60Gb HD. I'd go for the 2.0Ghz with 1Gb RAM though as it has the DVD writer. That comes in at $1,399. Not bad for a Mac. My only gripes are the low-speed HD (5400RPM and no 7200RPM option) and the integrated graphics system. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

I want a portable laptop. Something I can stuff into almost any bag and not worry about. I currently have a 15.4" HP laptop and the thing is a right pain. You have to man handle it, it doesn't fit into most bags and it is weighty. I have a desktop machine for work with a nice big screen so this laptop wouldn't be my dev machine. It is for everything else outside of the office. I want a laptop that is like an A4 pad of paper to carry around. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

Although it's a bit bigger, that's what I like about my 14" iBook - also the speed of wake-up. The new MacBook's have got better screen resolution than my iBook as well - hmmmph, tech envy coming on :-)

I totally agree

I have an IBM X40 that I can hide under a sheet of 8.5x11 paper, I think Lenovo still makes it but they also make this[^] which is called the X41 and as far as I can tell its only slightly heavier and a tablet pc. Matt Newman

Why not just a pair of wrap around glasses that plug into the unit for the display. No built in screen on it at all. "Every new day begins with possibilities. It's up to us to fill it with things that move us toward progress and peace.” (Ronald Reagan)

harder when you already have glasses.... I would rather not require contact lenses (assuming they would work for me), just to use my computer. Plus the glasses technology is not perfect either requiring either specially treated glass for horizontal and verticle polarized light (each eye then sees only one image), or it has shutter speeds. The shutter glasses give me headaches, I would have to drive the display at 120hz to split it into alternate renderings of Right Left for 60hz signal. Either the auto-stereo or polarized glass with glasses is simply dual-link signal which is a little easier to pump simultaneous than alternate renderings. I would rather have a display that takes a Z-buffer and raster image to automatically generate stereo information through whatever method than need specialized software. Each user then comfortably uses what ever technology he/she can afford and feel comfortable with. :) and I have less work to do to render a 3D image.... _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Think of the goggles skiers wear. Fit right over standard glasses. Yes the display needs to be synced for left and right, but that should not be more than dual display capability for an initial offering and can be in the display, not the computer providing the image. yeah... right... :-D The pessimist wins on this one... the monitor manufacturers have already provided an auto-stereo interface with dual raster (via software), so their job is done. :) The rest is a software job.... I hear all the times that I joked about "that's hardware" excuse coming back to haunt me.... _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. You miss my intentions. Never said hardware or software. But still provided by the manufacturer for their product. Not custom work by you. "Every new day begins with possibilities. It's up to us to fill it with things that move us toward progress and peace.” (Ronald Reagan)

I was considering one; esp since I am a closet unix geek. But, the inergrated graphics is IMO a deal breaker. Not that I may need better performace from the graphics system; I just want the flexability if I decided to up and boot XP and play Oblivion like I can on my current HP notebook. Color me disappointed. Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton
