Is it a lot less expensive than a similar LCD TV? Regards, Nish

We use LCDs for normal work (all have 37 inch LCDs on our desks) and have one plasma for checking decoder quality and demonstrations. Elaine :rose: The tigress is here :-D

I've got some good DVDs to watch (getting the matching Panasonic DVD recorder too) and will be waiting about a month for Telewest's TVDrive HD PVR because they released it about 5 months early so the software should be stable then. part of the resaon is that my old telly is 7 years old, cost £100 and can't cope with wide screen DVDs, some overscan issue. Happy for you! What model have you settled for? I'm thinking about Samsung's PS-42S5HX. The price has really decreased lately, yet it's HD-Ready.

What are you doing this weekend? :) My brother's visiting me, and I'll take him somewhere and teach him to ride* a motorbike. If I could just get hold of my colleague's laptop, I will show him how cool the AoE3 demo is. * Question for native speakers - is is true that you drive a car but ride a motorbike? Is it wrong to say "I was driving my bike when...."? š Cheers, Vikram.

Good afternoon Vikram. For the purposes of avoidance of doubt, I would like to state that this thread, whilst repetitive, is in some quite curious way fast becoming a CP institution, and therefore gets my '5' vote! This weekend: Tomorrow I am going to Mike's stag bash in Bristol, a morning of shooting at poor innocent orange clay discs, and an afternoon of go-kart mayhem. Sunday, a 30 minute 'check ride' in a Piper PA28 from Tollerton, should be fun - I may go for a longer pootle if the time and weather allows. And then sitting in the sun in the garden admiring the efforts of my new Head Gardener! Finally: one does not 'pilot' an aircraft, one 'flies' it. IMVHO! Tallo Ho!

Couldn't find that model, but the price seems right. I hope you'll be satisfied with it. It's a djungel with different models and performance.

 I still would love to get one; one of these days. And yes, it's typically riding a (motor)bike, for the already stated reason of sitting on top. I'm off to another wedding tonight. The 4th one in the past 10 weeks. :) Should be fun if the rain holds off. Then tomorrow I'm going to a ribbon cutting for a new walking trail. A few miles of old rails were converted into a walking path downtown. Tomorrow night I'm visiting some friends for dinner and drinks, and Sunday I'll do some yardwork and maybe work on some personal coding stuff. BW

Saturday I'll probably be recovering from last night (rugby game and then out till 3am drinking. I've never been hungover AND battered at the same time) and this evening (battle of the bands event.) Sunday I am off to Cork the whole day to watch a game of Hurling with 40,000 mad Irishmen. Monday is a holiday and I'll be finding a quiet spot near a beach with the girlfriend and a picnic.

It is wrong :) You drive a car, ride a bike, pilot a plane and helm a boat (though you can also pilot a boat.) Strangely you don't drive a train, you ride it or steer it. English is screwy. regards, Paul Watson Ireland FeedHenry needs you

I don't know how trains work over there, but here it would be kinda hard to steer one. ;P Here "train drivers" are called engineers.

It's still called steering though. Also train wheels do have limited steering capability. regards, Paul Watson Ireland FeedHenry needs you

Shooting what? I have a Hi-Power rifle match and I am taking my latest M1-Garand out for the match. Probably also take the Ar-15 out for some plinking after that.
Clay Pigeons this weekend. On Sunday there's a qualifier for the Welsh team, at the moment I'm joint first in the rankings. Might do a bit of rat shooting as well with my high power air-rifle. Just in the process of putting in for my firearms certificate (things are more regulated over here in Britain than in the States (that's my understanding anyway)).

well, you are at least staying above 3.0 on the average score... I know folks get bored with hearing the same thing over again, but didn't someone say elsewhere programmers like code reuse? ;) Anyhow, I spent the week running project scheduling, reports, work-plans and hopefully nudging the group in some good directions. This weekend will be a work-weekend with several "due monday" reports, one program on high priority, plus my normal work I never got around to doing because I was doing the job of my project leader while he is away on vacation. I will be happy when he is back. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Talk about things of tomorrow and the mice in the ceiling laugh. (Japanese Proverb)

Well... 1) Harumph I still have to work with my klunky old 10D :p 2) RAW takes up too much room, and unless you are printing out huge, jpg is just as good. IMVHO. :p again!

drives are cheap: 0.32 per gig[^] jpeg is not as good and it has less to do with printing as much as it has to do with production cycle. Most cameras are taking 10-14bits per pixel. It is like saying that a polaroid camera is always as good as a 35mm negative. One of the advantages with RAW, especially if you are starting out is that you can adjust for exposure mistakes with a plus or minus 0.3 or 0.6EV without much loss of data. To make the same adjustment in Jpeg you are simply trunkating bits. Think of RAW as a digital negative, jpeg is only a final still (polaroid style). Once you have learned the camera and you can ALWAYS make the first shot count, then jpeg is at least "similar". Almost everyone starting out has shaken their head and said a mild curse (or major one depending on the individual) because they messed up a shot. RAW gives you a "little" bit of help in getting that back assuming no gross mistakes. I would _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau.
