Windows vs. Linux Users

Yeah, assuming my mother and her friends, and my girlfriend, and all the other technically illiterate people out there learn how to emerge...Your average user is not going to learn how to maintain a linux setup. And yes, I've heard it's gotten SOOOO much better...but not for those people...don't underestimate the thick headed stupidity of people. That's not an insult - I'm quite stupid on some subjects - but understand that most people have no idea what they are doing. And you can say that windows isn't simple enough for people for reasons x, y and z - but you're obviously wrong since most people CAN use Windows (the really stupid use a mac...just a joke...sort of) but they will never figure out the drivers for linux. And the hippy socialists promoting linux will never have something that is user consummable - it's just not in the nature of open source. There will always be problems that are far too daunting for the average user - and there won't be any tech support from India to help them. And don't even suggest that they use message boards, because they'd be lost there too. Anyway, I'm glad I got a chuckle somewhere this morning. Thanks. J

Exactly what I try to tell people. Linux is for the long term. If you want to be using it a long time from now you better get started trying to make it run immediately. :)

Just because someone got Fedora Core X to install by taking all the defaults by no means makes them a computer expert. Everyone else seems to understand this except the person doing the installation. :sigh: Then we are blessed by the presence on the web until high school makes them too busy to do the computer thing for a while. Then they get to college and become art majors. Reminds of a joke my friend told me (My friend *IS* a successful artist.). What's the difference between an Art Degree and a large pizza? A large pizza can feed a family of four. :-D

Make a difference with what? 13 year olds crying the demise of Windows in a software development message board? Nah, I don't think anything but high school will help that. If those same people are lucky enough they might scrape their way through college and hopefully that will keep them from making flimsy predictions based upon nothing factual. I mean at least in college (most of the time) you have to provide facts, reasoning and justifcation for claims. No, I don't think anything will prevent dumb people from saying dumb things... You'll just keep doing it.
