H1 B to USA

If your H1B is approved, and you don't go - you've basically taken some other person's chance of going there on a work-Visa. Though, that is not a particularly major issue - from your current perspective. I'd suggest this. Move to the US, work for an year or so, and if you don't like it, go back to India. One extra year of work experience in the US looks good on your resume - specially since many companies are looking for that sort of candidate. Regards, Nish

Looks like you got it under last year's quota then. This fiscal year's start date is Oct 1 2006. Even if the H1B is approved, the work Visa date starts Oct 1.

Looks like you got it under last year's quota then. This fiscal year's start date is Oct 1 2006. Even if the H1B is approved, the work Visa date starts Oct 1.

Hi!! How are s/w jobs scenario in USA?I got a H1 B done with a company there , am presently in India with a good firm.The company also started a development centre in India and benefits are good during bench period also(Also ranked top 2 fast grwoing company in past 2 years in Milwaukee region, presently with 500 employees). Which technology is doing well.(Heard .Net and Datawarehousing). What do you suggest, going to USA at this time(dont say before filing for H1 , you should have thought,or your personal...), after nearly 6 years exp. Please suggest. I moved from Canada to the US almost 7 years ago, initially with a Trade NAFTA visa, then an H1B visa. I have completed the residency requirements and am now a permanent US resident. I have no regrets for my decision. The job environment has given me room to grow professionally and personally. As others have said, international experience shows you are willing to test new waters.

The IT market in the area I live (near Charlotte, NC) seems to be increasing. As for as hot skills, the people I have worked with that have gone elsewhere are working with C# and SQLServer 2005, so, Microsoft based technologies are certainly in demand.

Being in a H1B is actually a bad idea in my personal opinion. You need to settle in a country, buy a car, get a rent or buy a house, etc .... If they let you go, you got 10 days to leave the country. This is a little crazy as you children are in the US schools, mortgage, car payments, etc ... I have friends that got let go after the dotcom boom and had to leave the US back to Europe, pulling the kids out the schools, selling the car in a rush and break the lease of the apartment. True - many H1Bers appl for a Green Card once they are in the US - for exactly this reason. Regards, Nish
