I find an acceptable color for the baclkground of a web page. I come up with (png) images that have backgrounds that are same as the page's background color. I load up a test page in Firefox. Everything is eactly what I was expecting. I load up the page in IE, and the colors no longer match (page background is darker than image background). WTF is that all about, and how might I fix it?

did you (or your PNG creating software) set a gamma value for the PNGs ? if so, that could be the cause - IE doesn't like[^] PNG gamma corrections... Cleek | Image Toolkits | Thumbnail maker

I gave up and went back to electronics for a while. Worked for me, but I guess that's not really the kind of solution you were looking for. Hmm.

Do PNGs support transparency? Is the image simple enough that transparency is even an option? Jon Sagara When I grow up, I'm changing my name to Joe Kickass! My Site | My Blog | My Articles

There is a way to fix it. If you for instance use Photoshop, photoshop stores gamma information in the PNG, which IE uses incorrectly. Look for a windows version of pngcrush[^].

IE6 DOES Support Alpha channels but only on 256 color pallet PNGS. (so it renders like a Transparent GIF) You can use Paint Shop Pro, PhotoShop and even FireWorks to take care of this. There is also a work around by forceing IE to use DirectX in order to render the PNG image in 24-Bit: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/[^] Other then that.. wait for IE7. =) -== The PogoWolf ==- "The Devil is a loser, and he's my bitch" - Mr. Lordi http://www.pogowolf.com GamersVue: http://GamersVue.blogger.com

I turn compression off, but Paintshop Pro has a really good optimizer, so my images are about 50-60% smaller than they would be if I had simply turned compression off and not used the optimizer.
