IE really Pisses Me Off [modified]

I find an acceptable color for the baclkground of a web page. I come up with (png) images that have backgrounds that are same as the page's background color. I load up a test page in Firefox. Everything is eactly what I was expecting. I load up the page in IE, and the colors no longer match (page background is darker than image background). WTF is that all about, and how might I fix it?

I gave up and went back to electronics for a while. Worked for me, but I guess that's not really the kind of solution you were looking for. Hmm.

IE6 DOES Support Alpha channels but only on 256 color pallet PNGS. (so it renders like a Transparent GIF) You can use Paint Shop Pro, PhotoShop and even FireWorks to take care of this. The simple answer is to use jpg instead on png... It still pisses me off....

I turn compression off, but Paintshop Pro has a really good optimizer, so my images are about 50-60% smaller than they would be if I had simply turned compression off and not used the optimizer.
