Duh. I mean, marriage depends on having all parties agreeing to the meaning of certain words. Treating them with disrespect just makes the whole thing meaningless. If we allow just anyone to call their relationship a "marriage", why, we might as well just allow any kind of disrespect... Next we'll be seeing people getting divorced, cheating on their spouses, possibly even bizarre "open marriages"... Oh.

So are you saying that you want all those things to be integral parts of marriage?

Changing the language isn't going to change the underlying reality. This is actually one of the things I dislike about religion: it tries to say that men were created first and that men are the creator (in the image of god) when it's perfectly obvious to anyone born from a woman that it's the other freakin' way around.

I think the "we are the superior sex" is another variation of the penis complex. :)

I suspect he's saying that cheating and divorce seem to be a part of the lives of many of the jackasses that oppose gay marriage because it will "destroy the sanctity of the holy union". I'm surprised there aren't widespread instances of conservative Christian heads exploding from a dangerous build-up of cognitive dissonance. Maybe they're saved by the same mechanism that renders them incapable of detecting irony...

How about the idea that the reason most of the worlds "advances" are performed my men is that, with the preconception that they are superior to women, they have deliberately suppressed any woman who dares to impose on male superiority? There are many instances, some of which recorded, where any development, particularily intellectually, by a female has been completely disregarded by their male "superiours".

There have been women who have pushed the envelope; Maria Curie (radioactivity), Emilia Lockhart (flying), Thatcher, Joan of Arc for example. The fact is that they are way rarer then men who have pushed the boudaries. But, that there are women who have proves that if a woman wants to she can, and could have, done so. Nunc est bibendum

Actually, in Europe, it is only Sweden where women and men earn the same for the same job. The rest all under pay women. Nunc est bibendum

I'm Christian, but I never thought that God is male. The bible says that you shouldn't make yourself a picture from God. God is God - and even when I call him father I don't call him "a man". But changing the call to mother isn't better. When you think that father implies superiority of male, so changing it to mother implies, that you think woman are better. The problem isn't the language. The problem is that there are to many idiots allowed to talk (look at the soapbox, tv or into newspapers).
