It does not make you free, but it does give a population recourse against a tyrannical government. Totalitarian governments always disarm the population, so they dont end up like the redocats did 200 years ago.

Partly because the media are screaming for action after a number of recent murders (mainly of teenagers) by knife-wielding gang members (usually other teenagers). In reality, the statistics for knife crime haven't changed much in 10 years, but the current UK government is a master of the "knee-jerk" reaction and, facing plummeting opinion poll figures, are desperately trying to show they are still "in touch". It will probably come to nothing, like most of their policies.

Except that they live in the US, contribute to the economy, and would get the green card if they could. There would have to be 2.5 million illegal imigrants in spain to get anywhere near the percentage the US has. Go dig up some figures. Nunc est bibendum

Actually a quick googling shows that their illegal immigrant figures are roughyl identical with the number of illegal immigrans we have from Mexico and South America.

Given that I clearly specified in the text of my post, I'm guessing that you're one of the illiterate Spaniards.

America's* Literacy rate (link[^]): 99% Spain's literacy rate (link[^]): 97.9% so Spain is about twice as illiterate as the United States. Not only that, but they elected communists in order to appease Al Qaeda. What a bunch of wussies. *Note that this figure has been adjusted to only include the United States. Venezuela was not counted. -- modified at 9:10 Thursday 22nd June, 2006

There's "literacy" and "functional literacy". Both of which contain two separate definitions. The link you specified outlines the latter while the link I specified outlines an equivalent baseline between the US and Spain. I didn't point any fingers at Germany. You guys are smart. That's correct. You're right in this point, but I think the number of ensconced illiterate persons might be higher. That's not just a point for the US, but also for Spain. I've got no numbers for Spain, but so I think there might be less than 99% of US-Citizens literated. Actually in a separate poll (which I don't have handy), the US actually lead the world in an international poll for both quality and quantity of sex. So I guess your assumptions are wrong.

Of course, this could have been an "international" poll, like the "World" Series. Or maybe it was like the pre-War polls, where the US had the clear and committed support of other countries, but those other countries turned out to be Liechtenstein and Nepal. Or it actually demonstrated that the US is the world leader at manipulating polling data. So many possibilities...

Had you really wanted to convey something positive about the US, you would've said that the US is twice as literate as Spain, and you wouldn't have called them commies and wussies. Yes, I'm 99% sure that by "literate" they mean that a person has fundamental reading capabilities, but they can't necessarily read anything above SuperFudge.

In all fairness to Oxford's Dictionary, it does mention the american spelling. On the other hand, the american spelling for similar words is smarter, because it conveys the actual pronounciation better than the british counterparts. Definately more foreigner friendly. ;)

It does not make you free, but it does give a population recourse against a tyrannical government. Totalitarian governments always disarm the population, so they dont end up like the redocats did 200 years ago.

If we wanted to change our government we would do it in a calmer fashion than running around shooting people.

You were completely wrong. You stated a kid had been sent to jail for 4 years for carrying a knife. Nunc est bibendum

That's where the Spanish come in. Btw, you're acting no better that espeir. But I guess it's ok to be hypocritical here as long as it's against the US. And yes I voted this down and his up to balance it out. Jeremy Falcon
