How are you meant to edit toolbars with >256 colours??? I can't believe this limitation still remains!!! I would have thought that went out with the arc (or at least after VC6!) Especially given the latest move to high colour icons, themes, alpha blending and the like. How are people developing for Vista? At the very least, I would expect VS to open the standard windows image viewer instead of making me export the bmp and opening it manually  Does anyone know of an add-in that provides the ability to edit high colour toolbars? Or a good toolbar editor app that supports vs2005 rc files? I see a toolbar editor here on CP, but it doesn't seem to work with vs2005 rc files. Cheers -- The Obliterator

The icon creation guide for XP style icons said to have your graphics artist make a highres one in photoshop and scale it to each required resolution after making it suitably shiny. VS05 didn't upgrade the icon tools because devs aren't supposed to be creating icons anymore.

but I/we cannot "edit" the toolbar in VS.net 2003, it wants to convert the bitmap to 16 colors. for example, if I want to add a spacer between to buttons, I need to have access to the toolbar editor ( not the toolbar bitmap editor )

You could always do it programatically. ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Real Mentats use only 100% pure, unfooled around with Sapho Juice(tm)! SELECT * FROM User WHERE Clue > 0 0 rows returned Save an Orange - Use the VCF!

Yeah, that works really well when you work for a big multinational corporation and you're told that the commercial art department will get to your request for 7 stinking icons sometime in Q2 of 2007.

Exactly my point! Well it seems I'm not alone in my request. Microsoft have an 'active suggestion' on their VS2005 feedback site. It now has 2 votes! I wonder how many it needs before they implement it?! https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=134188[^] -- The Obliterator

heheh agreed. but without a toolbar editor how is a developer meant to work with the shiny images when he eventually gets them from the art department?! answer obviously is the hard way - by hand! -- The Obliterator
