    Hi All, How do you rate IBM Rational Rose and Microsoft Vision? Which one you felt good and easy to use and more flexible with UML standards? It would be great if you share your experience opinions!!! SaRath.

          What do you want it for ? With Visio, AFAIK, you can only _draw_ Diagrams (for the purpose of drawing them). Rational Rose is a developping tool, so there is much more behind it, you can geenrate code, and so... And if cost is a relevant matter, you'll very quick stick to Visio =) ~RaGE();

            So you limit yourself to famous names only? Visio is a drawing app with some scripting behind it. Rose, yes has a history but IMhO is one of the most difficult to use UML tools marketed. Go take a look at others, I think you will find several options that will make you happier. Sparx Enterprise Architect has won the Jolt Award[^]. "Yes I know the voices are not real. Visio will generate code and databases from diagrams and reverse engineer diagrams from code. Although, in my opinion, it is not worth the time to enter the detailed info into Visio as you could hand code it faster.

                Yea i checked the link. really nice tool in the appearance. i have posted this question to know more about the tools available for modeling. the rational enterprise edition is very huge in it's cost. but this product remains in few dollars. Rational and Visio are the most popular one. In many companies, even big or small, most of the people are used with rational. that is the problem. if a tool offers best in it's category, definitely the world recongnize it... SaRath.

                  I can take your wording a few different ways. EA is good and I use it. Even bought a license for my home usage. I will also say there are several others that are good. I do more business process models than anything else. If your needs are different you may choose something else. (or if no cost is a real diver another.) I also find many do not like to leave what is familuar to them. So they started with one tool and never evaluate anything else. Take care. Mike "Yes I know the voices are not real. Exactly... In my company, I found many people are not shifting to Visual Studio 2003 and stick with the old version. the reason what they're telling is that they're used with the old environment. they're not ready to accept what all the new features offered in the new UI :) but im not believing in any of that. if a tool is good we should use that.
