Christian has been discovering country music and I am always complaining about buying disappointing albums. We all want to hear about new music, so here is an opportunity. How about everyone post the name of one band who blew their mind for the for the first time in the 12 months. A band who you never heard before, but when you discovered them in the last year, you went wow, this is pretty damn good. For me, an Irish Band, yeah don't rag me for choosing a local crew, you all listen to U2 don't ya, BellX1, had vaguely heard of them before but didn't take them seriousily until their recent ablum "Flock". My vote would have to go to Ray LaMontagne, and his album Trouble. He might have been around for a while, I don't know, but his voice has totally blown me away. He supported David Gray, if that gives you an idea of what sort of music he plays. Regards, Tom

Hmmm... I bought the Diamond Head best of in Canada, and while I knew about them, I've never heard them before, that's blowing my mind right now. Also the Johnny Cash compilation I bought is really cool, that I obviously had heard of before. For bands I didn't know existed 12 months ago, my vote would be Crystal Pistol, a most excellent sleaze rock outfit coming out of Canada. The best track starts with 'Everybody hates you when you love rock n roll'. Brilliance. Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++ Metal Musings - Rex and my new metal blog

The Warm (Free mp3)[^]. Great japanese electro punk band (not the bedwetting UK 'indie' band). And its futuresonic[^] in manchester this weekend, which should be fun. Ryan

Not really a new band (I know them for 2 years) but still a very good band: Epica[^]. This is a dutch band and they play a kind of symphonic-gothic metal. Very good (there are some samples in the download section).

A British alt rock/pop band and called The Editors. Words fade as the meanings change, but somehow, it don't bother me.

Sounds good but the samples in the download section don't sound very polished ... :^) Bit like Rammestein Regards Ray "Je Suis Mort De Rire" Blogging @ Keratoconus Watch

I know that Greenday isn't particularly new, but I first heard the group this past year, and I'm impressed. Most new music consists of headbanging noisee of low quality with unintelligible lyrics conveying no meaning whatsoever - much worse musically than Disco. But Greenday's tunes are crisply played with notable skill, and the lyrics not only make sense (most of the time) but also appear to convey a meaningful message. A lot of it is politically incorrect, but an awful lot is politically wrong in this country and I appreciate a band willing to protest. Reminds me a bit of the 70s, when Rock was about changing the world. It's about time someone took up the banner. "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9
