Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase a boxed licensed copy of VC++ 6.0? [edit] Does it still come with the msdn? [/edit] This statement is false. -- modified at 18:16 Wednesday 19th July, 2006

My search for "visual c++ 6.0" yielded 5 sealed in the box copies of VC++ 6.0 Professional (not academic) and they include MSDN Library (but probably not an MSDN subscription, I imagine). Thorn

Have more info so had to reply to my own message. The copies I see on Ebay range in price from almost nothing to buy-it-now price of $169. Thorn

It does not come with MSDN, your only option is second hand. VC6 support is over, it's not sold, it's not supported. Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++ Metal Musings - Rex and my new metal blog

Sorry Rahul, I think the timing was agaist you. I really can't risk jettisioning all of my copies / licenses. Had you been a bit earlier, I would have gladly given it to you. Just for MFC, have you considered VC++ 2005 Express, it is free forever and you can get a hold of it here[^] Again, I am sorry about not having an additional spare to sell. Cheers Chris Austin Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton

Hey Chris, No worries man! Good things happen to those who wait. Maybe I can get a copy elsewhere. Maybe someone else will step up and offer me another license Maybe I can convince MS to give it to me for free. Maybe I can get a really really low-priced version somewhere Life is full of possibilities:-D As for the Express,I tried that but it threw a "afxwin.h" file not found error. On a diff forum, i was told that Express doesnt support MFC:^) Life is calling!!Where are you?

Visual Studio 6.0 definitely still comes with MSDN. I have the "Professional" level subscription, it is CD number 934+935, dated July 2001, and you also get Service Pack 6, disk 773 - as listed in my 2006-July MSDN Index, so although I received my CD's many months ago, since they are listed in the current index it would be misleading if they didn't come in a new subscription you bought today. Anyway you could easily confirm with the salesperson, do you still give me the VC6 disks 934, 935 and 773, both "Yellow". Probably what you really want is the Enterprise edition, if you can get that from eBay or something - of course the Enterprise edition probably comes with the Premium-level subscriptions, but those are Really Expensive. The Service Pack 6 can "of course" be freely downloaded from MSDN. pg--az -- modified at 5:17 Friday 21st July, 2006

I wonder if you can just make a copy of it from someone who has it, and then buy a full copy of the current version from Microsoft. That way, Microsoft gets its money, and you get a copy of the software.

Wow! That's good chunk of change for something 4 versions old.

That's what we did - and we were specifically told to do so by a well-renowned official MS reseller.

Yeah, I don't know if the Eula allows for that and stuff, but it just seems like it would be okay.
