Funny I thought Heroes of Might and magic 3 was better. Regards Ray "Je Suis Mort De Rire" Blogging @ Keratoconus Watch

AoE 2 or 3? They're my 2nd fav in AoE2, Saracens being the best. I haven't explored AoE3 all that much, though I rather like the Germans. Cheers, Vikram.

Yup, No idea about AOE3, I've played few scenarios as English, If I remember it correctly. I'll start my experiments on AOE3 soon.

Totally forgot about Wing Commander, and how I had to upgrade my video card and system memory to play it. Thanks for the jolt!

I actually have never managed to play the WingCommander 2 properly. First my computer was to slow when I bought it (second hand in London no less :D), then it was to fast, so I had to cheat my way through just to see the story. I so love(d) the series :D --------------------------- 127.0.0.1 - Sweet 127.0.0.1

Kaboom - so simple, but so addictive. I reckon if the new PS3 has the same impact today as the 2600 did then, my marriage will end. Regards Angel ********************************************* The sooner you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up.

Yeah, Civ2 is the best in the series for playability. The original is the one that kept me busy when I should have been working towards my degree though!

I'll give 5, in chronological order: The original Tetris. (It's still the best version!) Descent 3. (This was the first first person shooter that really really hooked me. For me, it was the first that showed what really was possible. This was also the first computer games my kids really started playing in earnest.) No One Lives Forever. (No game before or since has quite matched the pure joy of this game, though World of Warcraft comes close.) Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun. (The first strategy game that hooked me. My kids and I still occasionally play it to this day.) World of Warcraft. (I was skeptical, but my oldest son really wanted it. He saved some money, I built a faster computer and we bought it. I created a character and next thing you know I'm totally hooked. So hooked, I went from playing through a new game once a month, to playing through only three within the last fifteen months [Including Doom 3, which sucked, and Half Life 2, which was decent.]) [EDIT: I should add that my truly fondest memories aren't the games themselves, but how excited my kids would get, and still get, when I play them. My youngest son especially loves to sit next to me and just watch and help. We made a good team. I can't count the times I'd be standing in a virtual room scratching my head as to what to do next when my nine-year-old son would impatiently tell me the solution to the puzzle. Some fathers connect with their boys through baseball, I do so through computer games. So, anyone who mocks computer games can just go to hell as far as I'm concerned.) Anyone who thinks he has a better idea of what's good for people than people do is a swine. - P.J. O'Rourke

RPG Bard's Tale III: Thief of Fate Might and Magic IV (I think that's the best of the classic I-V) Ultima V and VI: The False Prophet, I'd say VII is the pinnacle of Ultima. Strategy Sword of Aragon Romance of Three Kingdom I-III Civilization Simulation SimCity & SimCity 2000 Railroad Tycoon Theme Park Adventure Monkey Island Loom Indiana Jones: Fate of Atlantis (all these by LucasArt). There are plenty more that I've forgotten, but those gems above will do ;). This game had a very good opening, but unless you tried to occupy the giants/titans cities the 2nd half had very underpowered opposition. IT wasn't really long enough either. :-/ My top 3: Moo1 Sim City 2k Stars!

                                      1. PONG - I spent many hours in a coffee shop with one of the designers sketching and analyzing circuit designs and trying to get video rates up to an acceptable speed. That was nearly impossible, and was one of the most important features of the game, as the TTL technology at the time was first generation - slow, noisy, and power hungry. The folks at DGI finally whipped the problem, and began the revolution. Me, I just had a blast brainstorming designs, drinking coffee and beer late at night in their factory in San Dimas with Dan, playing the prototypes and fiddling with ideas. 2. Space Invaders - Played on a HP dumb terminal at General Dynamics using code on a cassette tape running on the terminal's internal microprocessor (a Z80, IIRC). Many a great missile test system design grew from the mix of frenzied bouts of creativity and periodic vegetative states induced by the game. 3. Centipede - The epitome of video games in its day, it was the fastest moving game I ever played for any length of time, and proof that the challenges PONG faced in its time were finally overcome once and for all. I still love a good game of Centiede, when I can find it. Since then nothing has impressed me enough to want to play, though, but the new stuff is truly awesome by comparison - all of them. I used to love playing this game called Protector on the Atari 800. My friend and I would stay up late carrying people to safety under our space ship. It was sort of based on Defender, but less "arcadey". Protector II[^]: was basically the same, IIRC. Man, there were a lot of games I used to play, but Necromancer[^] probably ranks up as one of the best. Of course, it would probably suck today, but I loved wasting my time with it. I remember spending days on end playing Civilization when it came out, too. BW
