FixedSys wakes memories, but it's to fattish. Comic Sans MS is out for purely discriminative reasons.

From the web site: All characters have the same width, like old typewriters, making it a good choice for personal and business correspondence.
Huh? I know retro's in fashion right now, but come on... Who writes business letters in a non-proportional typeface these days?

Sans Serif is a proportional font. You use that for programming...?

Have you tried Consolas with Clear Type enabled? That what my first reaction too when I tried Consolas: Huh? Now who the hell writes code using this crap?!. Then I found out it is supposed to be used with Clear Type enabled. Of course this means it's kinda build for the TFT monitors. Using a CRT for Clear Type sucks, and Consolas definitely looks nasty.

Ahhh, now that's why it's nasty. I'm sure you'll love it on a TFT.

Well, actually I don't think it's a nasty font. The fact is that I don't like monospaced fonts in general...

Proportional fonts doesn't provide the same visual cues as a non-proportional font does. Lines of the same number of characters does not have the same visual lengths...

I think monospaced font provide a better development experience. It enable to visually grasp the nesting level of all your code block instantly!

ClearType looks like crap on my (TFT!) monitor, I don't know why. I tried anyway, but what looks bad looks bad.

Well that's because the different technologies of manufacturing TFT. But there's a solution. It's called Clear Type Tunner. Just go to this page[^] and download it. It will let you customize the settings for Clear Type.

I'm my opinion, it's easier to spot syntax errors if I have those visual cues.

It's just another example of MS copying off of Apple, but they did a lousy job with it. And yeah, I had to. :-D

It's all a matter of habits and preferences. I like to have a more readable font, especially at small sizes. I'm used to MS Reference Sans Serif 8pt and I like it. :)

Thanks, after downloading I found out I already have it installed :) setting to "lightest", makes some fonts OK, but others still remain washed out. I guess I'll have to stay with the pixel fest.
