What cars do we all drive?

Continuing the regular lounge tactic of polling fellow CPians for their lifestyle habits, What car do you drive? What car would you like to drive if you got payed what you deserve? So as not to be discriminatory, those who don't drive at all can just make up answers. :) Sorry to dissapoint you all with my lack of a witty or poignant signature.

1987 White Ford Fiesta, 950 engine (the smallest) No frills. It has doors, thats about it. If I could have any car, I think it would be a mid range Ford Focus. Does this make me sad? Roger Allen Sonork 100.10016 yet to be identified being from the planet Paltinmoriumbanfrettybooter

I drive them all. I'm the man, it'd my birthright. My wife usually drives the truck, and sometimes asks permission to drive the Buick. Notice also, there are no FOREIGN vehicles in the bunch. - Bud Moore's race-prepared Trans Am 1969 Boss 302 Mustang - this was a museum pice, but I was allowed to drive it in a parking lot slalom course. 2) 427 A/C Cobra at Riverside - ahhhh, the way all cars should be made. I took a race-prepared A/C Cobra for a "casual spin" (if you can call four-wheel drifting through the turns as "casual") around Riverside before it was shut down. This car's power-to-weight ratio is phenominal. Traveling in a straight line at 100mph, you could punch the gas (without down-shifting), and it would leave rubber STREAKS (not just little whimpy chirp marks). This was the scariest car I've ever driven - it was a) expensive if I wrecked it, and b) being a roadster, didn't have a top. The car is capable of going OVER 200mph in race trim. 3) 1970 Talladega Torino - this was Torino (sold to the public) with an extended "aero" front end (the fenders are more than a foot longer than on a standard Torino), and sporting a 428 motor hooked to a Nascar "top-loader" 4-speed. This car was damn fast. 4) 427 SOHC Thunderbolt Fairlane - from the factory, these cars had fiberglass fenders, door skins, hood, bumpers, and decklid, and came with aluminum door panels and plexiglas side/rear windows, a four-point roll cage, and racing lap belts (full harnesses hadn't been invented at the time). The motor was a dual-quad 427 side oiled single-overhead cam mill hooked to a Nascar toploader gearbox and a gussetted nickled-geared 9-inch heavy duty rear end, and available in ANY gear ratio you could imagine. The car was also equipped with a scattershield (a cast-iron bellhousing for the clutch). This car ranked 2nd in the scariest drive of my life. 5) 1970 GTX with a 340 6-pak - this car did first-run 12-second quarter mile with only an initial tune on the engine, and before we left the dragstrip, it was turning low 11's - we drove the car 120 miles from the owner's house to Orange County International Raceway, and had to stop for gas 11 times (not counting the fill-up at before we left or when we got there). 6) An honest-to-god Nascar stockcar - I went to Las Vegas and did the Richard Petty Driving Experience thing TWICE. The first time was 40 laps, and the second was 80 laps. If you like to go fast, or even THINK you might like it, you should try this out. If you've never seen a Nascar oval up close, let me just say that those long backstraights look REAL short when you're moving at 175mph. I really do pity the young guys who never got (and will never get) a chance to experience th

Doh! I missed the "What would I drive if I got paid what I deserve" question. I would be driving something that doesn't have as many problems as my car does and it would have to drive a lot smoother than it my Tempo too :) James Simplicity Rules!
Hi James, Because you always have great things to say about my book :) I'll pass onto you one single sentence that changed my life (no exageration). I read this on the way to an intervew in the states after years of being underpaid and its affected my negotiating tactics and outlook ever since: You don't make what you deserve; you make what you negotiate. It sounds trite, but think of all the "undeserving" people in your company pulling down big bucks and the other more talented, harder working people making nothing. The first group just negotiates better. Cheers, Tom Archer Author, Inside C#
