 My favorite Dickens piece. Well, okay. It's the only piece Dickens wrote that I liked. The man seriously needed some Prozac.

Well... he tried to score some from Edgar Allen Poe, but given that it never helped Edgar, he gave up.... :-D

Besides a great Jethro Tull song, what kind of personality are you? Do you live more in the past, the present, or the future? Me, I'm a "future" kind of person, always excited about some new possibility. However, there are certain things in the past I simply can't seem to move past (or, erm, is that "beyond"?). Marc

Well, to actually answer your question, I live in the present, enjoy the past and work for a better future. I take that is close to what you ment with your answer, not living in the future.

Big Ed's thing was alcohol, and lots of it. Supposedly some of his stories were written during benders.

I am truly shocked and surprised.... ;) By the lakes that thus outspread Their lone waters, lone and dead,- Their sad waters, sad and chilly With the snows of the lolling lily,- By the mountains- near the river Murmuring lowly, murmuring ever,- By the grey woods,- by the swamp Where the toad and the newt encamp- By the dismal tarns and pools Where dwell the Ghouls,- By each spot the most unholy- In each nook most melancholy- There the traveller meets aghast Sheeted Memories of the Past- Shrouded forms that start and sigh As they pass the wanderer by- White-robed forms of friends long given, In agony, to the Earth- and Heaven. Yeah, Ed had a drinking problem.... possibly more, we'll never know for sure. The one guy with the most evidence of more than a "drinking" problem also hated Edgar's guts and everything that poured from it, so he can hardly be considered an unbiased reference. :) Still... dying without even your own clothes on your back... it does seem like more than just alcohol. Of course there is always the Rabies theory too... http://www.umm.edu/news/releases/news-releases-17.html[^]

When I saw the title of the post in the CP Insider I wondered whether anyone else would know it was a Tull song - coincidentally I've got the 20th Anniversary boxset playing now. And since I've been brought around to write a post I might as well reply to your question too. I'm always excited by the future and what will come especially technology wise. But I also spend too much time reliving the past wondering how my life would be different had I made different choices.

At present, I live in the past, but I have big big plans and am eagerly preparing for the day when I will, at long last, be able to live in the future. ...not that silly SciFi Channel, time-machine kind of future, with all the robot totalitarian dictators with shaved eyebrows wearing chrome capes and shirtsleves that are too tight and evidence that mankind blew himself up with an atomic bomb in an SUV, thus allowing the computers to wrest control of the planet. ...not the future with all those foolhardy flying cities with upside-down cars on HabitTrail roadways and octopus scientists wearing evening gowns who don't speak and twelve-year-old princesses who govern from within vast chambers sparsely decorated with Danish furniture from the 1970's and invariably these rooms all have laquered black floors buffed to a shine that apparently can only be attained in the ultra-future. ...I'm certainly not writing about the future with war-loving discourteous aligators captaining inter-galactic battleships shaped like Danish table lamps from the 1970's while growling out ultimatums of impending death and destruction over a big-screen TV that just happens to be tuned to the Angry Lizard Channel. No no no....I mean the future where I have a gold-plated LearJet and my hobbes are recreational bribery and driving motorscooters in Italy. Good night, Jim Does this thing have a SpellChecker?

I haven't been able to get my head around that whole democrat republican dichotomy. In other countries we actually have left of centre politics. Then again, you have such decent internet connectivity over there.

I'm probably a future person, but experience has taught me not to get over-excited about potential. It's usually less than perceived.

Except when it is more that percieved. The thing about inovation that facinates me, is how often it is missed until it becomes the standard. For instance, the internet starts to become a big thing and everyone is talking about the new business model/supply chain economices/whatever. The technology that really changes business? Email. I have seen statistics that as much as 5% overhead in many business' was attributed to the production, circulation and displosal of paper memorandums. Memos are dead, email has replaced them, business is better and no one talks about it. Of course everyone uses it and most of us couldn't get along with out it. I think its interesting the things we choose to focus on. BTW, I prefer to live for today. As the saying goes, yesterday is a memory, tomorrow a dream. All that is real is today. And that is a great deal of what makes me a Democrat

Marc

The future, it is the only one that you can have any influence over (albeit very little). + Future == Hope NIK PS. Time is a an illusion though.
