I usually close (minimize) all my windows when I have finished something I was working on or when I come back from a break and unlock my computer. That's when bob on my desktop tells me it's time to hit the lounge! :-D It's like a reminder to launch firefox and log in to CP!!

I don't always run with applications maximized... plus, it's nice to have nice pictures there. For example, I have a lovely black background with the logo from our project[^] on the back. Anyone who walks by my machine when the machine isn't locked and I'm not working with apps full screen can see our "lovely" logo and will immediately want to join our wonderful project.
Regards, Brian Dela :-)

So what if the Lounge is PG. There are so many kids out there hanging around CP spying on how exactly it feels to be a programmer. Let us say two fast cars, one high on testosterone and the other on estrogen, happen to meet at the gas station. That is a potential accident.

Actually what's the purpose of a wallpaper in our desktop. in the busy working, play game, prepare a document, we are not seeing or using it. it sees only when we minimize the whole windows and while logon to windows? so is it required? (Anyway it's quite hectic to see a desktop with wallpaper)

So that our IT department can brand our desktops with the corporate logo and remind us who own our lives between 9 and 5.

It's a motivation to keep your desktop tidy, i.e. not getting it cluttered with icons. (Or, getting it completely covered in icons, depending on the wallpaper) You can also show (off) your vacation photos - seeing some pics of valle sagrado on a stressful day gives me some kind of concentration back. If you have strict cubicle rules (no personal items), you can: - come early - decorate your cubicle to your likings - take a photo - cleanup your cubicle - use the photo as background or maybe you have some pic where you make out with the daughter of the boss
We are a big screwed up dysfunctional psychotic happy family - some more screwed up, others more happy, but everybody's psychotic joint venture definition of CP

For me, it can help to tune my mood a bit. My company disable wallpaper changing on all our desktop machines and display their crappy motto or something like that on it. To show my discontent, i went as far as hacking into the registry and replace it with my own. I feel much better now.
