Hey guys, Could you suggest the spec for a machine that'd run Vista Beta smoothly? Specifically the video card. We are trying to put together a machine for testing out Vista.

    Regards, Nish

isn't "beta" and "smoothly" something of an oxymoron?

I would imagine, get a top-end card with 256MB or 512MB of RAM. Marc

What are you doing up ? I'm not even in bed yet ( although it *is* late for me ) Doesn't Chris have a 'Vista ready' notebook ? (evil laugh) Seriously, I have the most recent Vista here, although I've not installed it. Should I try ? I have two different video cards to choose from...

If you don't care too much about the Aero Glass interface, the beta runs just fine under VMWare. VMWare server is free, and Workstation is not very expensive. We use the workstation version, so that we can do the snapshots, which are REALLY good for testing installs. David

Based on my experience with Vista on a development machine: RAM: Atleast 2GB (4GB recommended) Processor: Dual Core (I am using AMD 64x2 4200) Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 7 Series Hard Disk: Make sure that you have 40-60 GB in the OS partition.

Not when refering to google. BTW: My Vista machine is running smoothly with only 1 bluescreen so far. There only a few minor quirks other than that I love it.

Nish, Microsoft has a section on their Vista webpage that details system specifications for running Vista. Vista PC Requirements[^] They also detail what kind of Video card you'd need to run Areo.

I'd like to know who he really is. I am sure he has a more regular ID on CP and that this masked crusader role is one he maintains in parallel.
