Damnit Google, where's the Groups link? Why move it from the top level links. Now I have to click that silly more link and then take Groups from the drop-down menu. That sucks!! Google design sucks!!@

I 100% agree! I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this. I use Google a lot for searching through their Usenet archives; it's a great source for research. The message of their design change is that they don't think Groups access is as important as accessing the other options. I got news for them, I value Groups access much more than their silly new Video option. What I will do now is bypass their main page and go directly to their Groups page.

Yes, I totally agree! I suppose there is more money to be made displaying the other options!

One of the things they replaced it with was Google Video. I tried it and it was pretty bad. (Not that YouTube is great; it's amazing how poor their searching is.)

Annoyed me too, thats why I wrote a Greasemonkey script to move it back  Unfortunately I don't have it handy as I only really needed it at work.

Google UK hasn't been changed yet.:) Yes, I hate usability regressions. There are a few in VS 2005 too (excluding the ones for C++ developers).

Yeah, when I first saw that I thought "what the hell?" It's an annoyance because I often will be searching for some error message or something the click on groups to get another set of results.

That's because it would be pointless to do so. Most people in India are on dial up.

Problem is bookmarking won't work for what I normally do. I use the Google toolbar to do a web-search, and if the results don't satisfy me, I merely click on the [Groups] link (which no longer exists on the main row) and it shows me the Groups search results. I cannot achieve this by bookmarking the Groups link - that'd be even more long winded than dropping down the menu because I'd need to do separate Web and Groups searches. Oh well, Google is a web-search monopoly and they just want to make more money - and apparently the Groups searches are not very good at collecting revenue. Funny how people think of Google as the nice charity oriented guys and bash Microsoft, when Google is as much of a sharp edged business unit as Microsoft is, if not more.

                          Regards, Nish

Well, pretty much all software companies act in the same way when they get to the level of a Microsoft in a particular market.

I don't think thats the reason, Google Australia, Canada, Ireland and UK have the groups link too. I guess only the google.com page was modified.
