My daughter has started to make lots of powerpoint presentations on her notebook, for different family members, full of statements that make me think she needs to work for Hallmark. I just got my first from her. Amongst the statements comparing love to a river, there were things like "We love your passion for rock" and "We love when you cook for us". Then, as she's scrolling through, showing me this, the second to last page said "Love isn't everything !!!" Now, I'm left wondering what she's trying to tell me......

Sounds like she is "getting it" more than most. (...waxing philosophical...) In my books Love isnt everything. It is messy and makes things terribly complicated. Mostly because it is not a emotion that works well in isolation... Love is only truly beautiful when it is reciprocated in kind. I have been happily married for 14 years (and with my wife for 18) and our love is strong. However it would never be this strong if it wasnt for the empowerment garned from Respect. Without Respect all other (positive) emotional responses (particularly love) are without substance. Other aspects (trust, loyalty, passion) as just subsets that seldom (cannot???) exist without Respect. At least thats how I see it. Cheers, David

Not sure if it is really wisdom... More likely it is brute force experience learned from 18 gruelling err... wonderfull years living with the same person. I'm just a little slow. :-D Cheers, David

*grin* She has real social issues. Most stuff she says, she learns rote. I doubt she meant anything by it. That's what makes it funny to me :-)
