A GT Avalanche[^] mountainbike. More suitable for everyday riding here in Ireland where the roads are rougher than a boar-in-heat's back. I want a good racer for weekend rides though.

I just ordered my new Trek 1200[^] yesterday :) Nothing really expensive, but I still think it's a good bike. (Direct Photo Link[^]) Now I can't wait to get it and try it out :)

Different bike to the one posted about. That was a road bike not a BMX bike. BMX is totally different and I watch it, and other extreme sports with a lot of admiration for the fearlessness and agility they require.

Tillykke ! I've got a Ghost 5100 htx MTB myself - and although Denmarks is relatively flat, there's still hills in the woods that I cannot climb. So lots of challenges. Fat_boy: downhill may be extreme, but try going uphill for once :)

Well, I'm from Sweden and I can tell you we learn very early in school that "Himmelsbjerget" (Heavens mountain) is the highest hill in Denmark. And if you go there you see all of Denmark :-D

I dont mean to sound dismissive, but I have never found bicycles exciting. They are bloody tiring, slow, and totally 'un-extreme'. I cant see how anyone could get excited about one. Now, a new pair of skiis, thats a different matter. That I can get excited about!

I love biking, for so many reasons. It's nice to have to world go by slowly sometimes, to turn the bend and see a family of deer grazing, or have a squirrel run along besides me for a minute--biking in the country is great! It's exhiliarating to be doing 40 MPH down the hills (in a 30 MPH zone, no less). It's fantastic exercise. I quickly become disconnected from the daily troubles of life and enjoy the feel of doing something that feels really freeing but also requires a lot of willpower. Marc

Well then go place yourself near a corner at the bottom of a steep hill during a road race and come back and tell me the chaps aren't a bit nuts in the head. Better yet, get on a racer and go down a hill at 60+kph in a pack of riders with a long sweeping corner half-way down when all you are wearing is a few millimeters-thick cloth and some styrofoam stuck to your head. No leathers, no knee guards or full-face helmets, just you and lots of skin flaying tar. I've skiied and I have cycled and both can get pretty hairy.

I've got a new "GI" for my jiu-jitsu training :-D (which is the (mostly white) suit you wear) Is that extreme enough. ;-) PS: I can recommand combat sports (preferably full contact) to couples. You can work out you're differences on the tatami. PPS: Yes, this really works :-D.

Hello Cairo is big. My faculty is 14Km away -same city though-. Besides, I'll end up listening to orthopaedic lectures on "cycle hit by a car" injuries given on me!!;P Regards:rose:

Indeed. I watched a race once that ran through the downtown area of this little village. The entire village was on the side of the hill, so the course was on a constant incline. I was at one of the lower corners. The road transitioned from asphalt to cobblestones for about 50 yards at the corner. These guys were doing 30-35 mph going through this corner, packed asses-to-elbows. On one of the last laps, the leaders had started to string out a little. The guy in second spilled the bike in the corner. Bike and rider rolled into the bales of straw placed strategically throughout the corner. I'm thinking we've got someone seriously maimed here; there's no way he'll walk again. The guy gets up, bleeding from a number of scrapes, picks up his bike (which no longer looked like a bicycle), and walks off the course :omg:.

:cool: I was looking at the 1000 recently, since the local shop doesn't stock 1200s(though could order one for me). They want to sell me a 1500 for a reasonable price, but I'm going to continue riding my hybrid a bit longer. Enjoy! Tell us how you like it after a few weeks of riding.

haha, well I cycle 22k everyday to work and back and have to endure all the co-workers making bets as to when I will have my first tractor meeting.

Very :cool:. I have the 1200's predecessor, a 1220 I bought back in 1999. It's been a great bike. My last ride, I rode it from my hometown (Xenia, Ohio, USA) to Cincinnati on the Little Miami Scenic Trail[^]. Round trip, it's a little over 100 miles. Unfortunately I didn't eat enough and 'bonked' at the end, so the last hour riding home was pretty miserable. The nice thing about Trek bikes: While they're not expensive, you get good quality components. I'm sure the elite cyclists around here (Mr. Maunder, for example) would :^), but for the amount of riding I do and my level of fitness, it's a perfect fit.
