Uhhh...I still don't see anything that equates to "be afraid....be very afraid". The first quote says we need to fight them...not be afraid of them (as the left apparently is).

The left is afraid? It's the right that's doing the fear mongering and is willing to give up our rights in exchange for safety.

If [God] knows what we are going to do then we have no free will and are just characters in a play written by him. Without free will, morality for humans makes no sense. Without free will and morality, any sort of punishment or reward system loses any justification. Conservatives have confronted and dealt with the threat posed to us. The giving up of rights claim is fear-mongering by the left. The fear-mongering attributed to Bush, as you have just demonstrated, is unfounded.

Even similar words. Pointing out the threat that terrorism poses doesn't count, since it's obviously valid. If you don't think so, then you have a very short memory. I'm curious about what you actually believe qualifies as "fear-mongering".

I'm a long time Republican (going back to the Regan era) and I find President Bush's use of "threats" to slice away our fundemntal liberties thoroughly scary. So, it isn't just "them lefties" who're concerned, bucko!

If you recall, Reagan painted "The Evil Empire" in a similar (and equally justified) light. Although in Bush's case, we were actually attacked in a very significant way, thereby justifying any and all rhetoric about "threats". But I am still curious as to what you believe constitutes fear-mongering on his part, what civil liberties you believe you have lost and why you believe that referring to the obviously real threat of eminating from the middle east puts Bush in a different boat than FDR, Wilson, Lincoln or any of the founding fathers who all strove to fight enemies of American Freedom.

You know, I was actually considering not voting Republican this fall. But the more I listen to you liberals howling again, the less I like the idea of actually voting to put you in power. How about running on your merits instead of what you see as the other sides demerits, for a change. No, you won't do that, and by November, you'll once again have me convinced that you are NOT the lesser evil. Damn shame.

Your grasp of history is flawed. Though I find Clinton's handling of terrorism--in all its forms--weak, the rest of your list and your associated assertion reveals a myopic view of events and actions.

Oh, my! Janet Jackson's boob appeared on TV for 1.3 seconds! Omigod! Won't somebody do something for the children?!?! Why, yes! Our fearful lawmakers in Washington are doing something! The Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act ... increases the top indecency fine the Federal Communications Commission can levy from $32,500 to $325,000 per incident.[^]

Damn shame.

That would be a nice change. Unfortunately, liberals' worst enemy is themselves.

The detention of any American citizen without due process is an erosion of our liberty--a 2 year imprisonment without due process an outright act of facism. Some folks would call that detention the part of a security blanket against further attacks. I call that a straight jacket.

Exactly. They fought to maintain those liberties. President Bush fights to end them. You don't see the difference?

Couldn't agree more. Frankly I'm fed up with both major parties. I expect that the Dems will have a happy election, then we'll be treated to two years of "impeach Bush, fire Rumsfeld, jail Cheney..." Nothing of significance will get done, and by 2008 the Republicans will have the edge again.

I hope you understand that I don't hold either party above the other. Most of their actions as a party have always been about maintaining or expanding their hold on power.
