(I know many of you don't care about F1 but myself and a few others here do.) So, Schumi has announced his retirement. Glad I got to see his final Italian GP and will hopefully get to watch his final 3 races. I am glad I was around F1 during his era, a hugely impressive one at that. Will we get to see a driver of his calibre in our lifetimes again?

... but he is obviously a talented driver and it would be nice to see him go out on a high, rather than as an also ran.

No, or at least not in the short time, in my opinion. Alonso is a good driver, but I guess, leaving the Renault Team, he won't have many chances to win the 2007 championship in McLaren... Raikkonen, which I personally don't like much (he's a good driver, though), won't like the Ferrari Team: they will pretend success from him, and I'm not sure he can manage that situation with all those pressure and stress. He was (is) the main driver in McLaren, but it does not have the best personality, especially when compared to Schumi. For the next season: go Massa, go!

First, F1 lost it's appeal for me in 1968 when they started adding wings to the cars. I say put Schumaker in a 1967 BRM, and let's see how good he really is... If he can make a BRM dance with a Lotus or an Eagle, I'll admit that he's a good driver. Until then, he's just another also-ran to me... -- modified at 11:48 Monday 11th September, 2006

He's a cheating shit. Last time he tried it he bust his front wing. Wanker. Remember he ran Hill off the road once and won ther chapionship? He tried the same thing the year later and it didnt work. He is a nasty little cheating shit who will do anything to win a race.

Why? At those speeds, better downforce is really needed.

At those speeds, it took a real driver to drive it. That was my point. Aero is for pussies who don't know how to do a proper four-wheel drift.

He was one of a kind, that's for certain. To be honest though I've been hoping he will retire for a few years now to open up the field a bit more. With the new batch of "corporate bitches" driving these days it's hard though to get too excited any more about formula 1. Any form of racing where the drivers are all instructed to stop racing nearing the end of the race to "preserve the engine and position" isn't really racing at all.

Right, Schumi was just overflowing with likeability! :) I've always liked Kimi better than Michael personality wise. Kimi is just shy, Michael is arrogant....not that there's anything wrong with an arrogant racing car driver, just doesn't make for likeability very much.

Let's just hope he doesn't end up like Ayrton Senna ... :^)

Did you know you can buy a 1/18 scale diecast of a 1967 Eagle-Weslake? I have one, and it's beautimous. I think a 1967 Lotus is available too. Cars from that era (any motorsport genre you might care to mention) had much more style and looks than any 10 modern race cars you migt care to mention. I especially like the late 50's - late 60's Le Mans cars. :)

Do the le Mans cars come with a bleacher full of dead spectators?
