I have a bunch of jpg images that I want to string together into a video and I'm looking for a tool to do it, preferably something in the free price range! I tried using the animation package in GIMP but it didn't seem to be able to produce anything that I could actually playback (problems with encoders). Ideally, I'd like to produce something that can be run in Media Player. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I use pinnacle Studio[^] for generating my Timelapse movie of a tree[^]. It works very nicely, and provides all sorts of output formats (MPG, AVI, WMV, RealPlayer). Unfortunately, you'll have to buy it, but it's well worth it.

You can try Microsoft Photo Story. It does a pretty good job. https://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/photostory/default.mspx

The only program I've found that does a bang up job of converting images into a movie for timelapse etc is VideoMach from here[^] It is nag free for a while, cheap to buy, and solid. Cheers!

Why not you try using Flash MX for that?

I use microsoft video SDKs and a jpeg library.... load a frame, turn it to a bitmap, store it to the video.

You may use "DVD Photo Slideshow Professional" from http://www.dvd-photo-slideshow.com[^] , this simple tool is what you are seeking. I think.

Good point. I'd never played with it and didn't even realize it exists :-O. I usually leave stuff like that out when I install Windows. Looks like it'll do the job. Thanks.

The free 3D program Blender has a good video sequencer that you can use for your images. You can add music (has to be a wav file if your using the windows version).

Lots of good suggestions. I'll add another one that I just had to use the other day. Download Microsoft's GIF Animator from Wikipedia[^]. Convert all your JPEG images to GIF and import them. You'll have a nice and small animated GIF image.

It was more than I expected from a free Software from Windows. Really a nice tool. If you have some good codecs, it will work fine with them
